Christina Vantzou’s “The Reintegration of The Ear” is out now. Two exquisite side-long suites, mercurial movements of strange, soft, and enchanting music and soundscapes evolved over three years of performance and listening. This is Christina at her freest and most uncompromising, working with an esteemed group of generous collaborators to create a work of beauty for eager and caring ears. Digital available on Bandcamp, @ninaprotocol and streaming on select DSPs. Limited LPs remaining from Bandcamp, @boomkatonline , @anostanost , @soundohm , @meditations , @objectsandsounds , @tobirarecords and more. Link in bio. “Composed by Christina Vantzou between 2023 and 2025 after being commissioned by INA GRM, The Reintegration of the Ear defines listening as a radical, embodied act of attention: a slower kind of presence rooted in care, intimacy, and reflection. Performed with John Also Bennett, Oliver Coates, Roman Hiele, and Irene Kurka, the work moves through intuition, breath, and resonance, forming an acoustic ecology between perception and expression. Paired with Observations, Edits, a Cure for Restlessness, a companion suite of domestic fragments and temporal drift featuring harp by Sissi Rada, Ben Bertrand’s bass clarinet, and others, time here is embodied, a porous medium where sound floats, reforms, and reveals itself as both instrument and witness.” Mastered by Simon Scott @spsmastering Mixed by @christinavantzou and @johnalsobennett Artwork by @evalhoest Design @jay_willah “The Reintegration of the Ear” Synthesizers, virtual instruments, field recordings, singing bowl: @christinavantzou Cello: @ollycoates Flute and synthesizer: @johnalsobennett johnalsobennett Voice: Irene Kurka Double Bass: @hielehiele “Observations, Edits, a Cure for Restlessness” Piano, virtual instruments, field recordings: @christinavantzou Harp: @sissirada Flutes: @johnalsobennett Bass clarinet: @ben.bertrand.music Strings: @magikminna Photo: @meganbruinen 🌿

Great review of John M. Bennett’s BLANKSMANSHIP in @hhvrecords mag courtesy of @m_stique 🫡 Fun fact - John Giorno was in attendance at the premiere performance of BLANKSMANSHIP in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1994, and was a correspondent of JMB!

John M. Bennett’s 1994 surrealist poetry tour de force BLANKSMANSHIP is out today. First released as a very limited edition cassette and chapbook, we are proud to reintroduce this work to the world, which in our eyes stands as a seminal point of evolution in John’s writing. As my brother @bnbnntt describes: “I remember many years ago asking JMB about the evolution of his poetry, and him describing it as surrealist, perhaps formerly in the usual sense of evoking surreal imagery, but gradually becoming more surreal in the syntax and sensuality of the words themselves. I think both of these modes are present in BLANKSMANSHIP, but especially the latter, where images and narrative are entangled in “impossible” thought formations.” This is a record that needs time and space to digest, and might linger on your palate after listening. As such it is not available on streaming services, but only LP or digital download on Bandcamp. Take your time with it, listen closely, or just let the words wash over you, and new details will reveal themselves. The work is dedicated to @cmehrlbennett . All LPs were hand stamped and include a booklet with the full text of the work. Limited to 200 copies, designed by @jay_willah . Link in @editionsbasilic bio 🌿

Editions Basilic and Luna Bisonte Prods are happy to announce BLANKSMANSHIP, a landmark work by John M. Bennett remastered and redesigned as a limited edition LP & poetry booklet. John M. Bennett’s BLANKSMANSHIP is a totemic representation of something impossible: a linguistic object containing a totality. Written and recorded in the early 1990s and released as a sound poetry cassette and chapbook, BLANKSMANSHIP begins and ends with a ten word mantra, distilling the poem’s ten cantos that act as phases of an extended meditation. Performed by the author accompanied only by minimalist shakuhachi flute and bell, a narrative emerges from a mythic place, spoken by a single voice that eventually multiplies into a horde of selves. The author states that BLANKSMANSHIP refers to a state of mind, the “empty yet swarming void from which the poem’s voice arises, as if it were the voice of completeness itself”. An unheralded masterpiece of American avant-garde writing, this is a poetry that has its roots in the most ancient and enduring forms of poesis. Remastered from original tapes, the LP includes a 24 page poetry booklet containing the full text of BLANKSMANSHIP. Edition of 200 copies, out April 25th, 2025 on Editions Basilic and Luna Bisonte Prods. Mastered by @johnalsobennett Design by @jay_willah Preorder via link in bio - LPs shipping from Philadelphia and Athens, Greece (and Brussels if you order very soon).
