Londoners! Well Done Mummy Penguin is on at the @thealbanyse8 in Deptford 1st - 24th December. I made the projection and creative captioning on it and it’s the best projection I’ve ever done. The show is an absolute gorgeous delight. Jaw dropping acrobatics, hilarious playful characters, and a heart hugging story about a family of penguins finding food in the wild snowy world they reside in. Based on the sumptuous book by @chrishaughton and made by @cant_sit_still_theatre Tickets for the Albany website: .uk #acrobatics #childrenstheatre #projectionmapping #creativecaptioning

I’ve made a new projection mapping reel, full of all kinds of brilliant projects I’ve been working on over the past couple of years including: Hasbian by @hasbianshow Under the Bridge by @libbyliburd How to Catch a bear by @carys_adventures_with_a_pen Ali in Wonder(Eng)land by @legalalienstheatre plus some experiments with @hesterchill at one of the @incollusion Art Tech Play practise days. The rest of the footage is from my own shows which can be watched in full here: / Apart from queericles which is still in development. I use Isadora for my projection mapping and After Effects and TV Paint for animation and video editing. #projection #projectionmapping #animation #interactiveanimation #theatre #videography #smallscaletheatre #physicaltheatre #portal #portalgame #animation #mograph #motiondesign #motiondesigners #motionlovers #motionmass #motioncommunity #weloveanimations #animatorsoninstagram #mdcommunity #motionaep #motiongraphicscollective #physicaltheatre

I’ve missed Genesis Poetry Slam so much! I used to come so often before Covid. Got through to the 2nd round and performed an old favourite and a brand new one which went down much better than I imagined. The other poets were off the charts amazing. Always such a high level at this slam. Good to see some old faces and new. I feel enriched. Also met the fab @tonybellactor who directed some of my friends in shows 21 years ago when I was at drama school and now is making a splash on the poetry scene. My life is in a state of shift and change right now and I’ve working through a lot of emotions, learning to see my own worth regardless of what happens, and in turn learning to let go. I’m becoming more present and mindful as a result. My current motto is “always stay one step behind reality” for times whenever my mind starts racing away. Walking back to the Liverpool Street I found a paving stone with the words “letting go was my first step towards peace.” @losinglxve and it felt really apt. And then walking further I found this gorgeous mural by @marijatiurina that I connected to a lot. I think it was probably a Covid thing originally but the moods in it are timeless.

Having an epic weekend at @devotedanddisgruntled by @improbable1 my favourite theatre event. It’s a non-hierarchical meeting of souls hell bent on fixing the theatre industry and anyone can start a conversation on whatever is important to them. I’ve so far learned about burn out, budgets, self worth, rejection, bonded with 2 people by looking at each other in silence, social media marketing tips and how to admin when you neurodiverge. About to talk to people about barbershop joy. And then have a nap. It’s such a heart filling space of generosity and soul joy.

2 new moves achieved today, both from the bridge. I’ve been doing a lot of bridge training lately and it’s paying off! I learnt them from the amazing insta channel @sunsu.saya and it’s taken me 6 months to get here. I’m dead chuffed. Still got a way to go to get as fluid as the likes of her but little by little. And wherever I get to is just fine by me ☺️

Had a stellar time at @lyrafest at the weekend in Bristol, with queer cabaret, a panel on the power of poetry, and to my delight getting to be a last minute addition to the Lyra Poetry Slam grand final. If you’re around in Bristol I think there are still fab events happening till the end of the week. Here are some of the abbreviated quotes from the poetry panel that I’ve treasured. @jtaylortrash “poetry is urgent. It’s responsive to the moment. It’s fast.” “Poems are small empathy machines” “Poets are solo animals but they keep herding.” “I call spoken word ‘embodied’ poetry” Vanessa Kisuule: “What poetry does is allow us to see the dissonance of things…my mother is a willow tree… in a time when the internet is cheapening language…sitting with our contradictions…sitting with the complexities of them.” “The notion of poetry as we know it today on the page sold in books is a relatively new one. I crave a world where people dash out lines of poetry on the bus to each other” @georgie_jonez “I think we’ve decided that doing is the most important thing. But I think being is really more important.” “Someone once told me that the word museum was because it’s a house full of muses” @city_chameleon said a really profound thing about how that moment of tuning in to creativity, channeling that idea is a powerful moment of healing, being one with everything. Me: I heard a podcast recently that said that the idea of a genius was a genie who lived in your house and was a muse for creative ideas and it lived in the house and future family members inherited it and channeled its voice. And then it was later that art became seen as something more egocentric and culturally we shifted to the idea that the artist is the genius who contains all the good ideas and potential for them within them. I think u heard that on season 2 of the @thetelepathytapes I wasn’t sure what to expect from the panel but I found it really inspiring and deeply moving. The whole weekend was.

2 hour bus journey home from london with 2 very drunk people right behind me shouting their conversation for the whole bus full of people trying to sleep. So i turned it into poem art. Enjoy the juxtaposition of leary drunk speech and claire de lune because bless them both. Had a great day out, singing and catching up with friends. wasn’t too phased by the drunk people. trying to live more in the moment and let life be what it is. my current motto is “always stay one step behind reality,” rather than anxiously pre-empting what the next moment might be or filling it with dreams and imaginings.

I just had the best 3 days with these absolute legends @glasshousedance @richardpye @rosymaydancer exploring peoples stories of social dancing experiences as well as our own. It was a really potent and full few days, deeply connecting through movement, and stepping into each other’s shoes, touching deeply the notions of what it means to dance and the profound experiences that have sprung up through our lives. I was so humbled to get to explore with them the first time I went to a trans social space, the @wayoutclub back in 2011, finding a sense of freedom and community for the first time and dancing to Beyoncé’s Who Run The World. We dressed and danced in ways that felt forbidden to people with bodies like ours and it felt powerful and terrifying and warm and full of life. Laura and Sarah have been recording people in the street chatting about their experiences of dancing socially, at dances, raves, clubs and at home, and we’ve begun to interpret their experiences in beautiful and wonderful ways.

Watercolour joy. Decided to do some painting after dance rehearsals to transition back to normality (if ever I were capable of such a state of being). And painted this broken bowl. My I painted it with my mum and family and previous partner, each with a different item and felt so sad when it broke. I’d been feeling full of grief and unable to get anything done then all of a sudden had a spurt of inspiration and tidied the whole of my house at midnight and just as I was finishing I accidentally knocked the bowl to the floor, smashing it into lots of clean pieces. I’m going to use the gold kintsugi technique to put it back together but liked the idea of making this painting to mark the journey in between as part of its transition.

Been going through some things. Made a zine yesterday while doing morning stretching. #grief is a tricky bedfellow. Hopefully a space of deep growth rather than just a space of hard truths. #zine #perfectionist #validation #pickme
