We're reclaiming our youth, in the name of solidarity, silliness & celebrating how far we we've come 🌈📖 You're invited to share your journal extracts, angsty poetry, thirsty fanfic, terrible tumblr posts - yes YOU 🫢 All adolescent scribblings welcome - no performing experience necessary! Coming up: BEDFORD - Apr 9 @ Green Earth Cafe (with @rainbowbedfordshire ) COLCHESTER - Apr 23 @mercurytheatrecolchester MANCHESTER - May 13 @watersidearts (with @prideintrafford ) FAQ 💘 HOW to sign up? Simply get in touch via our short form & Beth will email you to say hi 🔗↖️ 💘 WHO can share? ALL LGBTQIA+ adults. Yes, you are LGBTQIA+ enough. 💘 WHAT to share? *Queer* = the ppl are LGBTQIA+, readings do NOT need to be "queer themed" *Teenage* = from your coming-of-age era. Could be your childhood or younger adulthood, as long as its the past! *Diaries* = whatever u wrote! Doesn't need to be journal entries: Could be old poetry, fanfic, stories, letters, myspace posts, MSN messages. 💘 WHY? Its fun, its cathartic, its a community bonding experience. Plus, who can refuse a dare? 👀 QD is a friendly crowd & many readers return to share more after their "first time". Readers say: “A joy to be part of” "So affirming" “I got a huge boost from everyone cheering me” “You realise we were all as weird as each other” 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ Queer Diary is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund Description: An animation featuring photos of people & words popping up on graph-paper, featuring different photos of readers holding notebooks - laughing, cringing whilst reading into a mic. Words match the voiceover, with typewriter-style blue & purple text with cartoony fonts highlighting key words (Broadway-esque font for ‘on stage’, curly handwriting for ‘angsty poetry’, drippy letters for ‘thirsty fanfiction’). Diary-ish stickers decorate the pages (including the QD logo - a rainbow bursting from a pink open book, a glittery beating heart with an arrow through it, sparkling stars, and a road-sign at the end that reads “get in touch”) #queerdiary

I'm a round-faced white millennial with dark wavy hair, wearing a white tshirt. My face moves around quite expressively, my eyebrows raise & my eyes get really wide when I say "AGH!" While some drippy red lettering illustrates that exclamation. My eyes are a little pink from tiredness, thanks to said travelodge. When I say "midnight", some text also clarifies its actually 23:45.

Hasbian is in Manchester THIS WEDS 7pm @watersidearts_ @pridetrafford Followed by #QueerDiary: the night where queer folks read their REAL teenage diaries live on stage 🌈📖 I'm always delighted when folks find something they can relate to in this show that features so much of my own real diary from the early 00s. I know some of my experiences are wildly atypical (if there is such a thing as a "typical" adolescence!) and there are manyyy references that makes Hasbian particularly connect with UK Millennials, but I LOVE it when it speaks to anyone who's older, younger, or grew up elsewhere. And I can NEVER get enough of hearing people share their own teenage scribblings at Queer Diary - what a dream to be able to do both shows back-to-back this week 🥰🥰 Still some 🎟 left for both shows tomorrow - Hasbian from £12, QD is FREE - if cost is a barrier, never hesitate to get in touch & I'll sort something out for you. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Description: Different generations react to Hasbian, a compilation video of folks of a variety of ages & styles in theatre foyers & bars, talking to camera, giving their responses to the show, against as many plain walls as I could find in my haste to capture their enthusiasm. Including: a person in a Nirvana shirt, lots of queer tattoos and noserings, someone with a lesbian flag badge, someone with a lavender bandana on, someone with a rainbow stripe across their sweater.

Queer Diary + School Disco Afterparty We can't promise to reunite you with your first crush, but we aim to reignite that rush of adrenaline you got when they first noticed you. Expect: earnest journal entries, long-lost love-letters, fabulous fan-fiction, terrible tumblr posts & possibly some cringey poetry 👀 PLUS: School Disco Afterparty ✨ Re-do your end-of-term disco, minus the adolescent awkwardness! Dance the night away to all the throwback tracks from YOUR coming-of-age era 🎶 Girlbands or Grunge? Emo or S Club? The DJ will take requests 💿 Think: we’re in Year 8 again, but everyone’s queer & allowed to stay out til midnight 💋 Wear what you want* ❤️‍🔥 Dance with who you want 💞 🚫 No bullies allowed! @ Daltons, Brighton Thu 25 June 7pm - Midnight PWYC tix on Outsavvy *flame shirts, wet-look hair gel, glitter bodyspray, all STRONGLY enouraged ✨ "The rip-roaring playlist continues as chairs are cleared away so the dancing can begin… as awkward and beautifully careless as it might have been at school. It’s the queer school disco young people deserve but don’t always get…. A space to look back on our formative years with kindness and laughter." - ★★★★★ The Reviews Hub Queer Diary is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund. Video description: A spinning multicoloured disco ball animation. Over it appears typed purple text in the style of a 90s word processor, says: what if you could re-do your end-of-term disco without the teenage awkwardness in a room full of friendly queer folks? Then the words Queer Diary in pink handwriting writing slide in with a bunch of photos of folks smiling & cringing while reading their diaries, alongside our logo (a rainbow bursting from an open book). More text gives the information for the night, the same as in this post.

How did i make a movies-referenced-in-Hasbian post & miss this one off??? Thats what i get for posting on the fly en-route to work - hope the fact that I'm wearing this shirt rectifies things with Manon 🌙🐍🌳🪶🔥🌊 Description: me walking down the street frowning into the camera at a comment that says "What about the craft?" then zooming out to reveal my black shirt says "We Are The Weirdos Mister" with moons and a pentagram, referencing the film, and I shrug.

If you've seen all these you'll understand me (& my show) on a *deeper level* If you haven't seen them yet, knock urself out! You have soooo many treats in store 💋 Though, a caution: there are some extremely problematic aspects to most of these, esp when seen through a modern lens. Their impact on us as young'uns wasn't always entiiiirely wholesome 😬 Next chance to see Hasbian is @pridetrafford @watersidearts_ this Weds MANCHESTER 🌈s come on down 💘 Image descriptions: 1. Sarah Michelle Gellar gets an eyes-closed shoulder rub whilst draped over Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions) 5. Angelina Jolie & Winona Ryder sat on the floor in a corridor, crop-haired Winona plays guitar while blonde Angelina sings along (Girl, Interrupted) 6.
