“The History of Information” by @chrishaughton is a brilliant example of creative advertising – it’s actually an ad for a book! It’s also a fantastic reminder that there are no creative limits in short filmmaking. Make what you love, and who knows, it could become a #vimeostaffpick one day. 💙 Music: Matt Wand @ohstudio.co.uk

The role of @laureatenanog means being an advocate for the children of Ireland. And children in general. We as an industry and as a country should be doing everything we can to look after their interests. With what is happening around the world, especially in Gaza, I believe irish people, in particular, given our history have a responsibility to stand up. And I believe that those of us who speak for children also have a responsibility to stand up. In this role of Laureate Na nÓg I intend to honour those responsibilities Video thanks to the amazing @sharkeydoodles

The Arts Council is delighted to announce author and illustrator @chrishaughton as the new Laureate na nÓg 🎉 Chris was appointed to the position today at a special ceremony @thearkdublin attended by @PresidentIRL Catherine Connolly. Speaking as the new Laureate na nÓg, Chris said: "I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be the eighth Laureate na nÓg. As a child I always loved drawing and reading and creating stories with my friends. That has never left me, and it has led me to become an illustrator. Now in this new role as Laureate, I hope to share that same love of creating stories to a new generation of children." A multi-award-winning children’s author from Dublin, Chris Haughton will hold the title from now until 2029, taking up the position from the outgoing Laureate, Patricia Forde. Storytelling day for 'Shh! We Have a Plan by the amazing @chrishaughton All props were made with paper by hand. A lot of love went into both the craft and the act of telling the story to an audience of 2 to 3 year olds for the first time. The children were mesmerized and engaged throughout the experience. Felt so wonderful and truly magical.

@chrishaughton , a children’s book author, was charged on terrorism offenses in 2025 for holding a placard in support of proscribed group Palestine Action. While he was waiting to be called in court, Haughton drew some of the others appearing on the same charges. Here, he depicts Maeve, who had come from Belfast for her plea hearing. I was invited to do a reading at Bologna Children’s Book Fair at an event about the rights of children. Instead of the reading I said I would do, I read the statement on Palestine myself and @jnhanoreilly wrote last year. What is going on in Gaza, and now Lebanon and Iran …and Venezuela and Cuba is unconscionable. It’s utter madness. We must do everything we possibly can to stop it. It is not enough to protest, we have to escalate and use every tool at our disposal. We must take action or support those who do.
