You awaken on a remote island in an endless sea. Here, Deluges emergence and come to rest, as the multiplayer game invites you to wander in search of stories. You have no map and hear a voice that is not your own. As you move through fractured coastlines and half-sunken ruins, time unfolds. Tracing patterns across Atlantean collapse, submerged continents, celestial patterns and drowned gods, you search for relics that unlock fragments of ancient transoceanic knowledge. ๐Ÿ  There is another planet not far from here, where the ocean stretches entirely across its sphere. Where the word for world is water. Where breathing, if anything breathes, would not mean isolating oxygen from air. It would mean becoming one with the medium. Permeable. Becoming what the whale already knows: you are not separate from all the things that holds you. I dream of those worlds sometimes. Of an endless sea. There or then, I would not be a fish full of borrowed air. I would simply be Ocean, dreaming herself into shape. ๐ŸŽฃ โ€œHow deep is the ocean?โ€ asks the plastic fish jealous of the whale, her lungs big enough to stretch from the depths to the surface. Big enough for her whale fall to sustain ecosystems for hundred years after her final breath. And you? In whatever way you have found a way to breath through unbreathable conditions. You are still here. There is no end to what a living world will demand if you. At a moment when some nations build their identity around the control and domination of water, Erik Peters explores immersion as relation in his Journey โ€˜Drowned goddess of a flooded land. Submergence as relationโ€™, part of OCEAN / UNI: Spaces of Collaboration In the North Sea region, submerged elements have been found that speak of past landscapes and civilisations resurfacing thousands of years later. The recovery of these histories depends on the same technologies that have turned the North Sea into a site of extraction, making its mapping more difficult. How might immersion offer an embodied method for relational ontologies? Rather than a place of disappearance, the sea becomes an archive that invites new ways of learning from it, while resisting capture. Rediscovering forgotten histories can offer an invaluable perspective on how we might avoid ecological collapse and better adapt to multispecies environments. ๐Ÿชธ How to Wake Up the Ghosts is still on display at @doxprague ! ๐Ÿชธ In 2021 I gave my first talk about this work at FIBER Festival during the panel โ€˜Mutant Myths Worldsโ€™ which highlighted two collaborative projects I participated in during my residency at Roodkapje. I didnโ€™t specify the credits clearly enough at the time, so to avoid possible confusion I want to clearly highlight the credits again within these collaborations: โ€จโ€จ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Earthrise (2021)โ€จA location-based game presented at the exhibition โ€˜Zero Emissions by 2099โ€™ at MaMa, curated by @mary_universe . How does her existence as unique European plant-human hybrid defy dominant notions of landscape and its extraction? documentation details of my first international solo show โ€˜Inframundosโ€™ last spring at @estratos___ @lascigarrerascc with @lacuartapiel ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿงš Iโ€™ll be showing some elements of this installation at the exhibition โ€˜Ruins & Ruinationโ€™ at @archief__artspace in Rotterdam, opening upcoming Friday 7th from 5PM onwards. The show will run until 30.03 and will be part of @rotterdamartweek โ€จโ€œWith Inframundos, the first solo exhibition of @e_ptrs in Spain, La Quarta Piel and the artist present a series of works related to the mysteries of the underground. Addressing both mythologies and realities that have existed beneath the Earthโ€™s layers for centuriesโ€”and will continue to expand invisible to human eyesโ€”, the artist speculates on the postnatural ctonic conditions that emerge in times of planetary crisis. Their work encompasses audiovisual works, sculptures, textiles, print materials and botanicals to weave an interconnected narrative of queer relationships and coexistence. From future technoscience artefacts and parasitic morphospecies mutated in deep underground caves, to artificial coral reefs and hybrid entities of the deep sea, Inframundos invites the visitor to critically imagine how our terrestrial ecosystems could evolve alongside and beyond human interference.โ€ ๐ŸŒช๏ธ On that note! Returning for the second year as curator of the Fluid Program and Iโ€™m so happy to have put this program together ๐Ÿฉฐ The Overkill is a playful festival celebrating indie and arthouse games, interactive arts and alternative films within a cultural and social context. Triggered by a feeling of powerlessness in a world that seems wrapped in violence, The Overkill festival is looking into the role of play within activism, the place joy can take in times of great crisis and the power of pleasure in movement of resistance. With the theme โ€˜Radical Joy Resistanceโ€™ the festival is wondering what are the (digital) tools, the (virtual) places, the encounters, the (online) gatherings we can create to give each other courage and build new lines of defence. The program will create room for the voices that we donโ€™t hear, open its space for listening, to speak up, to share and try together. The Overkill invites playful artists to engage with us in the troubles and help us activate disruptive movements, may it be small, loud, temporary or transformative.
