Ellen Schafer: Youths opens May 3, 2025 from 3-7 pm. Ellen Schafer received a BA (Hons) in Sculpture from the Glasgow School of Art in 2012. She was in the MFA programs at the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and the University of California, Irvine, graduating in 2020. Recent exhibitions include ‘Ha-ha Place’ at Leroy’s and ‘Plaza’ at Timeshare, both Los Angeles, as well as ‘stuff’ at Galerie Wonnerth Dejaco in Vienna. Additional presentations include ‘Plastic, plastic, plastic’ at the Mak Center of Art and Architecture and a duo presentation at Artissima, Turin, with Galerie Wonnerth Dejaco. She is based in Los Angeles.

Tonight, we host the final open hours of ‘Ha-ha place’ @leroys_happy_place 🙏🙏 to all the artists we approached to be readers for our collaborative piece ‘Collect Call From Ha-ha place,’ recorded for and installed on the non-functioning Leroy’s payphone. @bestguesslegs @ikivimaki @meksikou @adult_nour @aurora__tang @7iffy @doritcypis @aimee.goguen @qualitycorn @cowboyulysses @lilauzi @olivia_leiter @wax_tabatha @ross_ho If you have passed through the exhibition during open hours, you have either heard voices coming out of the payphone or have listened with your ear pressed against it. T, M and I were so thankful that everyone we approached on a last minute’s notice was down to clown with us. Secondly, thank you thank you to @spa_shorts of @leroys_happy_place . Steward and artist extraordinaire who keeps this special place alive. LA needs spaces like @leroys_happy_place to help imagine the possibilities for art to live in challenging and unconventional ways - most importantly, fun, imperfect, and sometimes messy. I’m honored to be a part of the still unfolding narrative of this place. Lastly, I’m grateful for @tanyabrodsky @groggy_carbon What a privilege it is to have friends that continue to teach you about being an artist and a person in this world.
