As part of Asia Forum: Minor Feelings, artist collective FAC XTRA RETREAT (FXR) will present a live performance unfolding within the programme at 2:30pm.
Formed in 2022, FXR brings together artists Ei Arakawa-Nash, Patty Chang, Pearl C. Hsiung, Amanda Ross-Ho, Anna Sew Hoy, Shirley Tse, and Amy Yao. The collective emerged through the Asian American Pacific Islander Arts Network (AAPIAN), connecting artists and art workers based in California.
FXR’s performances are collaborative and process-driven, often activating relationships between artists, audiences, and institutions through collective action and improvisation. For Asia Forum, the performance is developed in association with the Japan and Korea Pavilions.
FXR’s performances at the Japan Pavilion are a co-production and continuation of a J. Paul Getty Museum programme first performed at the Getty Center, extending an ongoing exploration of performance as a shared and evolving practice.

FAC XTRA RETREAT (FXR) is composed of Ei Arakawa-Nash, Patty Chang, Pearl C. Hsiung, Amanda Ross-Ho, Anna Sew Hoy, Shirley Tse, and Amy Yao — artists whose practices span performance, installation, video, sculpture, and socially engaged work. Alongside their individual practices, all members are also educators across art schools and universities, bringing a shared commitment to collective learning, experimentation, and exchange.
Working both individually and collaboratively, their practices engage questions of identity, ecology, history, and the social conditions of artistic production, often foregrounding participation, embodiment, and relational forms of making.
