ACT III: Pneuma, 2024

Single channel video projection that concludes my trilogy “Pierrot in the Air Horn” with the lungs (that proverbial can of compressed air). Drawn (or seduced) by the animist belief that the spirit/breath is a vital and tangible material, this work uses artificial light to both illuminate and animate various objects and landscapes. Through dilating the brightness of the lamp in sync with the tracking of the camera the recorded subject “breathes.” The soundtrack features the bellows of an accordion, recorded/mixed by the brilliant Adrian Garcia, another mechanical breath that precedes the production of an utterance.
The trilogy is installed together for the first time (with the premiere of Act II and Act III) at the Frac des Pays de la Loire in Nantes, France which just opened Sunday in WORD IS ROUND, a group exhibition with Mads Lindberg, Kirsten Mosher, Martin Vongrej, Jordan Derrien, Lili Dujourie and Marie Bourget, curated by Marie de Brugerolle 💫⭐️
