UMP Classics & Screen/Decca Publishing + Bright Notion Music are excited to welcome Daniel Wohl.
Born in Paris and now residing in Los Angeles, Daniel is an award-winning composer who blends electronics with acoustic instrumentation to often “surprising and provocative effect” (NPR). His multifaceted output ranges from intimate music for soloists to immersive electronic pieces, music for film and television, chamber ensembles, and works for large orchestra.
Performances of his electroacoustic concert music have been held at the Broad Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, MASS MoCA, the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Barbican, Elbphilharmonie and Sadler’s Wells. Among upcoming projects is a residency with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam for the 2025–26 season, which will feature the premiere of a new piano concerto written for Francesco Tristano.
His latest film score is for Morgan Neville’s documentary Breakdown: 1975 narrated by Jodie Foster coming to Netflix on 19 December 2025.
“I’ve loved Daniel’s music since I first saw 8 Minutes the dance piece he scored for Alexander Whitley Company at Sadler’s Wells in 2017, truly transporting. I am so happy we get to work with him now, there are many brilliant things to come.” – Lucy Bright, Bright Notion Music
Daniel Wohl’s “Artificial” is available now on your favorite streaming platform! The 9-minute piece was commissioned by the RPM fund for Alarm Will Sound, who performed and recorded the composition, with the intention of creating a space for the listener to tap into a sonic environment that is part organic, part digital, and overflows with a deep emotionality that is imbued into each gesture.
“I was curious about how changing formats, digital to physical and back again, would shape the music in unexpected ways. As AI tools got more advanced over the past couple years, I fed bits of the recording into them and used what came back to reshape the final version. To me, the piece feels kind of hopeful as it leans into the idea of a human–machine collaboration in a way that’s maybe more optimistic than how I usually feel about where all this is going.”
