Ring of Fire LP “The original soundtrack from the ‘Lunar Weerasethakul’ section of the installation Ring of Fire - Solar Yang & Lunar Weerasethakul, by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Haegue Yang at Matabe House, Naoshima, Japan.” by Koichi Shimizu and Akritchalerm Kalayanamitr Manufactured by Benesse Holdings, Inc. 直島・本村地区にある家屋「またべえ」にて公開中の、映画監督でありアーティストでもあるアピチャッポン・ウィーラセタクンと、第 13 回ベネッセ賞を受賞したヤン・ヘギュによる「Ring of Fire－ヤンの太陽＆ウィーラセタクンの月 Lunar （夜）」で使用されている全音源を、12 インチ LP レコードとしてリリースいたします。 ヤンとウィーラセタクンは、太平洋を囲む火山帯「リング・オブ・ファイヤー」に、自然界の営みの連続性を見出し、光、影、動き、振動の感覚に焦点を当てたインスタレーションを構想しました。「太陽」と「月」は、それぞれの作品の特徴を表し、日中はヤンのさぬき盆灯篭などをモチーフにした彫刻が地殻変動を表すリアルタイムのデータと連動し、地中深くの動きを伝えます。 一方、日没前後からはヤンの彫刻にウィーラセタクンの長年の旅や探検の断片がコラージュされた映像、照明やサウンドが重ねられ、 1900 年から 2024 年の間に「リング・オブ・ファイヤー」で起きた地殻変動の歴史を辿ります。「またべえ」は、まるで記憶のテクトニックプレート、あるいは子宮のように脈打ち、夜が深まるにつれ、映像は点描や光の線に分解され、幽霊のように現れては消え、空間を漂います。 家屋内各所に設置されたスピーカーによって構築されるシネマ的なサラウンド音響、そして「ウィーラセタクンの月」セクションで響くDuckunitによる照明を駆動するモーターの音、ヤンの鈴の音─それら空間の響きを本レコードのために新たにステレオに再構成し、作品の空間性や時間のレイヤーを感じ取れるような音響作品となっています。 本作は直島のベネッセハウスショップ、およびベネッセハウスオンラインショップでの限定販売となり、明日9/1よりベネッセハウスショップにて先行販売を開始いたします。 We are pleased to announce the release of a 12-inch LP featuring all the sound materials used in the “Lunar Weerasethakul” section of the installation Ring of Fire – Solar Yang & Lunar Weerasethakul, by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Haegue Yang, currently on view at Matabe House in Honmura, Naoshima, Japan. The cinematic surround soundscape, originally constructed by multiple speakers placed throughout the house—together with the sounds of motors driving Duckunit’s lighting in the “Lunar Weerasethakul” section and the resonances of Yang’s bells—has been newly restructured into stereo for this record, creating a sonic work that conveys the spatial and temporal layers of the installation. The record will be available exclusively at the Benesse House Shop in Naoshima and the Benesse House Online Shop, with advance sales beginning tomorrow at the Benesse House Shop. A limited number of copies will also be available in Bangkok very soon.

The MCA proudly announces a major new cinematic installation by the acclaimed Thai filmmaker and visual artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Created especially for the Museum with his longstanding collaborators Rueangrith Suntisuk and Pornpan Arayaveerasid, the installation ‘A Conversation with the Sun (Afterimage)’ presents an evocative meditation on memory, dreams and the nature of cinema itself.
