It’s the end of #FaceEquality Week ❤️ It’s been wonderful to see friends and allies post so many #MyFaceIsAMasterpiece photos and videos. Here’s mine. Love and respect to all 😊 ID; Amanda has strawberry blonde hair and wearing a green top whilst speaking directly to camera.
“My face is a masterpiece; it is individually mine and no one else’s.
My face is a masterpiece; it has help shaped my identity and career.
My face is a masterpiece; it is not something to be feared or ridiculed.
My face is a masterpiece; it has introduced me to a whole new world of allies and possibilities and I am privileged to be part of the facial difference community.”
Delighted to be on @bbcsoutheast today for @changingfacesuk talking about #FaceEquality and the need for positive representation in brands, businesses and broadcasters. Tune in at 13:30 and 18:30. #ThisIsMe
Happy #FaceEqualityWeek ! ♥️
Introducing... Amanda! (she/her)
"Hi, I’m Amanda and I am really looking forward to taking part in the Fat Life Drawing event in aid of @changingfacesuk
I have lived with a facial difference (and other differences) since birth but for the first twenty three years of my life I separated my appearance from my identity. Undergoing numerous ‘corrective’ surgeries alongside never being encouraged / invited to talk about difference led me to assume that difference was sad, maybe even bad… certainly shameful anyway.
It took a cataclysmic sequence of events for me to start exploring my appearance and how it was inextricably linked to my identity. Although extremely challenging at times, lightbulb moments shaped my 20s and definitely for the better. With support and a lot of soul searching, I finally grew into my own skin and now proudly support Changing Faces as an Ambassador.
In a world full of filters and mis-representation where beauty norms are forever narrowing, art is an incredibly powerful medium for realistic and positive representation. This is why I am delighted to model for the Fat Life Drawing crew!
Difference is perfectly normal and should be respected as such. Not hidden, not dehumanised, not infantilised. Societal perceptions and images around difference have started to change, but there is still some way to go to achieve Face Equality. We all have a role to play to facilitate positive changes so people living with difference don’t feel they have to hide either all, or part of themselves, away.
This project encompasses all of this in a truthful and beautiful way.
So… what are you waiting for? Please sign up and get involved!"
