🧜🏾♀️ This one’s for the heart space.
I wasn’t taught how to be strong.
It was just expected.
And for most of my life, I carried that weight—
For everyone but me.
The strong woman. The strong Black woman. The boss. The fearless one.
The sacrificer. The safe place. The story that held everyone else.
But this year, I let the ocean take it.
All of it.
I traded in survival-mode strength for something softer.
And in return, I created a world:
This year, I traded in strength and created a new world.
A world where softness is sacred.
Where mermaids wear their natural hair, their Bantu knots, and their Afros.
Where soft power exists.
Where women and humans of every color, shape, and story
can exist in fantasy, softness, and freedom—without needing permission.
This is the first chapter of the me I haven’t shown you.
The comic-book loving, mermaid-dreaming, heart-on-sleeve kid
who turned her healing into music,
and her vulnerability into a universe.
Black Mermaid is for anyone learning to love the parts of themselves they were told to hide.
It’s a love letter to softness, mental health, and the magic of feeling again.
🖤 Welcome to Chapter One.

@bbc@bbclondon Thank you 😭 for premiering the #firstlisten for my new single “Girl Like Me”.
@salmaelwardany I’m so grateful to have women like you in the industry, who create space. Thank you for such a dope interview and for hosting my “first listen” in London, as I enter this new chapter with my music and career. Your work and journey continues to inspire me.
This interview was such a milestone for this Jamaican Girl from Canada.
“Girl Like Me” is a song about turning grief into your soft girl “Glow Up” season. It’s a cameo for anyone whose ever underestimated your value and an anthem to move us all into our best chapter.
“Girl like me” drops June 18 - Pre save ( link in bio)
Thank you @jarreltheyoung for producing this @hiddenpony / @universalmusicgroup / @grantcreativity and my whole team.

This is courage…
I want to thank the @wxnetwork for such an incredible award, honour and recognition. Sitting in a room with women from some of Canada’s leading corporations, brands, organizations and startups was transformational.
It meant so much to be here. To reflect on getting here. To be in such a powerful room and to feel worthy. To be the only artist in the room, and to understand the responsibility and power of being able to use music, community development, mental wellness and business to transform lives.
Being recognized in the “Women of Courage” category, was extremely emotional because behind all of the visible work that people see, are the silent, quiet and difficult daily journeys , that so many of us juggle just to show up.
What was clear was that our power is in showing up. If not anything else, it’s putting on what ever shoes fit right that day and just stepping into the room. I realized yesterday that simply showing up and taking up space as a women is political, because our existence challenges, waters and transforms spaces.
So thank you to everyone who has continued to remind me to do so. Thanks to my team. To the Top 100 women from this year and previous years and to all of my female artists and entrepreneurs who are doing the work and not always recognized.
My courage is our courage, and our courage is the requirement for entry as a woman. Courage in what ever size you can show up with.

Dear momma…
To the woman who taught me to believe in myself…
To the woman who let me be a weird theatre kid…
To the woman who tolerated my shenanigans as a teen…
To the woman who said one day people will know your name for your heart and talent
To the woman who helped me graduate high school and university with honours when they said I never would
To the woman who taught me what true love looks like…
To the woman that showed up for me when I didn’t know if I could show up for myself…
Dear momma. I can never reciprocate everything that you’ve done for me in this life time, but for today Happy Mothers Day and thanks for reminding me every day that my dreams are possible and that the big world that I see in my mind is worth creating.

We dance for healing and joy…
Before books were written about the body keeping score, we danced, healed, loved, released and celebrated through our hips. Not for entertainment but because it’s in our roots.
My daily ritual is dancing every day, getting in my body and Letting go 💙
Sometimes courage looks like closing your eyes…
and finding a moment of safety in a room full of strangers.
Because for so many women, safety isn’t something the world easily gives.
Honouring courage. Honouring every story. Honouring every survivor.
Thank you to @endviolenceeverywhere and @cait.alexander for creating a space for healing, truth, and connection and for trusting me to be a part of such a powerful event. 💙
Lately I’ve been growing into someone you don’t know…
Music Wednesday…If Olivia Dean threw me a remix of The Hardest Part… It would go something like this.
