Welcome to The Hive.
Known for its striking, honeycomb-shaped façade, this 10-storey office building located at 2150 Keith Drive in East Vancouver is more than just beautiful.
It’s innovative.
Constructed from renewable mass timber and installed with high-efficiency systems, The Hive is projected to have greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption levels 80% lower than similar buildings.
Designed in collaboration with @fastepp , the mass timber structure is seismically resilient – essential in tremor-prone B.C. – and can recentre itself after an earthquake.
At the same time, building occupants are treated to spacious office spaces bathed in natural light with beautiful views.

The long-awaited design of the Calgary Event Centre by DIALOG and @hoknetwork , now called Scotia Place, has been revealed.
The @cityofcalgary and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) officially announced the project at today’s press conference, with the Mayor of Calgary Jyoti Gondek and Premier of Alberta Danielle Smith in attendance.
“We at DIALOG are thrilled to join forces with HOK and combine our unique expertise to transform Calgary’s Event Centre into the catalyst for a dynamic new urban community,” shares Doug Cinnamon, Partner Architect at DIALOG. “The ultimate goal is to provide seamless accessibility, promote mixed uses, and create vibrant public areas for everyone to enjoy. This joint redesign represents an opportunity to spur investment into the area and enhance its cultural vitality, anchoring Calgary’s position as a thriving, bustling community hub.”
Scotia Place celebrates the area as a place for all and will be a landmark attraction in Calgary’s emerging Culture + Entertainment District. More than a building, the 10-acre city block is designed for community and connection and includes a community rink, plazas, restaurants, the Calgary Flames Team Store, and future development opportunity – a gathering place for the new downtown neighbourhood.
Construction of Scotia Place begins this week, and is set to be completed in Fall of 2027.

Earlier this week, DIALOG team members put their skills to the test at the 2026 @canstructionto competition, where designers, architects, engineers, and contractors built large-scale sculptures entirely from canned food.
All cans are donated to the @dailybreadto Food Bank, with more than one million pounds contributed since Canstruction Toronto was founded in 1999.
This year, DIALOG created “Can Catch” – a Toronto @bluejays –inspired baseball mitt gently holding a heart, symbolizing care, unity, and the strength of community.
🔗 Cast a vote by 9 p.m. ET on May 19 for the Canstruction People’s Choice Award by donating to the Daily Bread Food Bank at the link in our bio.

May 4-10 is Mental Health Week.
DIALOG believes in the power of design to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. And research in neuroscience and other fields has shown that the design of buildings and public places can have a measurable impact on mood, behaviour, and even cognitive function.
In honour of Mental Health Week, let’s look at six design choices that studies have shown can have a positive impact on mental health.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to share that DIALOG has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2026 – for the second year in a row!
Each year, @topemployers recognizes organizations for leadership in sustainable thinking, climate action, and environmental innovation – measured through the impact of its climate initiatives, reductions to its own carbon footprint, and employee commitment to sustainable actions.
Aligned with this year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet”, swipe through to see five projects that demonstrate our commitment to low-carbon, sustainable design:
➡️The JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture (Glenbow Museum) in Calgary, AB, diverted 38,000 tonnes of concrete from landfill and avoided 56,000 tonnes of new carbon during a recent renovation.
➡️University of Victoria - Engineering Expansion in Victoria, BC, has thousands of sensors embedded in the new structure to capture building performance under campus climate conditions.
➡️The Hybrid Timber Floor System (HTFS), is a patented system co-developed with EllisDon that could enable carbon-neutral towers up to 105 storeys tall.
➡️The Hive at 2150 Keith Drive in Vancouver, BC, is an all-electric office tower that performs 80% below the median for buildings of its type for emissions and energy use.
➡️The Shipyards in Vancouver, BC, preserves the original steel and geometry of historic structures to support flexible new uses.

April is World Landscape Architecture Month, celebrating a craft that shapes the public spaces we all inhabit.
But what makes for a good public space? According to DIALOG Partner and Landscape Architect Bryce Miranda, “It’s where people feel comfortable being in a space that allows them to be themselves.”
Good public spaces are designed with the understanding that memorable things can happen there: A good spot for a first date, or to spend a fun day with your grandchildren.
Public areas are also immersive. They are experienced from many different vantage points, at different times of the year, and in varying degrees of daylight.
“As landscape architects,” Bryce says, “we’re constantly thinking about ‘What is that feeling you’re going to get when you’re in that space?’”
In honour of the month, swipe through to see some of DIALOG’s memorable public spaces:
➡️Balmoral Circus Redesign (Calgary, AB)
➡️ sθәqәlxenәm ts’exwts’áxwi7 Rainbow Park (Vancouver, BC)
➡️Roundhouse Park at Station Lands (Edmonton, AB)
➡️Humpy Hollow Park (Calgary, AB)

How do you design infrastructure that helps wildlife safely cross one of Canada’s busiest highways?
It’s officially Friday! Which means it’s time to spotlight another Safe Passages Project CoLab. This week, we’re highlighting: The Calgary CoLab: Design Innovation for Wildlife Crossing Infrastructure at the Trans-Canada Highway
The Peter Lougheed Wildlife Overpass is located along one of the busiest stretches of the TransCanada Highway and represents the country’s first large-scale vegetated wildlife overpass built outside a national park. This area is rich in wildlife, consequently making it a hotspot for wildlife vehicle collisions. As a result, DIALOG was engaged by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors to design the new overpass structure for mitigation. EDL, along with ARC Solutions, was then invited by the team at DIALOG to lead an interprofessional CoLab with the purpose to guide and inform the design.
The Peter Lougheed Wildlife Overpass officially opened in July 2025. The Calgary CoLab helped to inform the project directly, presenting a series of recommendations for the design, communication, procurement, and overall process of the final wildlife crossing infrastructure. By directly extending the Banff wildlife corridor system eastward, the crossing was purposely-designed to allow wildlife to safely cross the TransCanada Highway, and has become a global model for restoring ecological connectivity.

Calgary's Glenbow Museum gears up to reopen next year, reinvented as the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture. DIALOG's architectural reimagination honours the building’s historic legacy while inviting community and participation.
“Instead of covering up the memories of the building, we highlighted the memories of the building,” said Robert Claiborne, the project’s conceptual architect and a partner at DIALOG.
The redesign brings the museum’s existing character to the forefront, preserving its Brutalist architectural legacy while embracing pluralism – an architecture that asks questions – and inclusivity. The result is a cultural environment that feels both familiar and renewed, better serving the city’s vibrant arts and culture community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us earlier this week for our panel discussion celebrating the launch of our latest report, Cool by Design!
Our incredible panelists Sam Bloch, Fadi Masoud, and Dorsa Jalalian led an energizing conversation on the intersections between shade and public space, drawing upon the report to explore how cities can adapt to increasingly rising temperatures. We are so grateful for their expertise and ongoing leadership in creating safer, more connected urban spaces.
A big thank you to Bentway CEO Ilana Altman for moderating, and to DIALOG for hosting and collaborating on this event!
