With a full heart, I’m excited to share that my solo exhibition opens next week.
This new body of work continues my exploration of land, memory, and matriarchal spirituality — reflecting on the stories carried through family, through place, and through the spiritual knowledge passed down across generations.
The garments featured in this work were designed in collaboration with Botshelo Molete(@botshelomolete ), whose thoughtful approach to form and material helped bring this visual language to life.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this journey and helped bring this exhibition into being.
Special thanks to Elaine Harris Productions for the generous support of the grant that made this project possible, Afronova Gallery for their continued support as my gallery representative, and Laura Serani for her insightful curatorial guidance.
If you are in Paris, I would love for you to join us for the opening.

Individual Beings Relocated / Moving / Evolving
Dimakatso Mathopa’s ongoing series transform deeply personal and historical narratives into cyanotype prints, Monotypes, painted acetates, exploring memory, generational inheritance, and the legacies of colonialism in South Africa. By photographing herself within historically charged spaces, Mathopa negotiates identity, reclamation, and storytelling.
Her work has been featured internationally at fairs and exhibitions including Paris Photo, ARCO, AKAA, the African Photo Biennial in Spain, and the Vogue Photo Festival, and is held in significant European and U.S. collections.
