Big ideas start early. 🏗️📚 Today we visited Dolores Gonzales Elementary School alongside local architects to see the incredible ideas students created for their very own playground. We spent time reading “Iggy Peck, Architect” together and talking about creativity, design, and the importance of imagining what’s possible. Giving students opportunities to explore and create at an early age helps inspire the next generation of thinkers, builders, and architects in our community.

Some school leaders support the arts. Others build an entire school culture around them. 🎭🎶 At Dolores Gonzalez Elementary, Principal Parisa Asgharzadeh has helped create a campus where the visual and performing arts are woven into everyday learning and community life. From monthly concerts and school musicals to belonging activities that connect families and students across grade levels, creativity is always at the center. As a proud Creative Campus, DGES brings teaching artists directly to students and provides meaningful arts experiences throughout the year. Their annual whole-school performance at the National Hispanic Cultural Center has become a signature celebration of student voice, confidence, and community, with every student taking the stage. Thank you for championing the transformative power of the arts and for helping students feel seen, connected, and inspired every day. Hats off to this incredible leader, staff, students, and community. 👏 @dgestigers @nmartsinedyear @mindpop @abqschools

A full school. A full stage. A full celebration of Visual and Performing Arts 🎭 Dolores Gonzalez Elementary took their learning beyond the classroom and onto the stage at the National Hispanic Cultural Center for their annual end-of-year Variety Show. Every student performed, showcasing the music, dance, and creative work they’ve been building all year long. As a Creative Campus, DG makes the arts a priority every single day, from weekly dance classes to live performances and hands-on experiences that build confidence and creativity. A special thank you to the National Hispanic Cultural Center for being a valued community partner and hosting this incredible event each year. What a powerful way to celebrate students, families, and the arts. @nhccnm @dgestigers @abqschools @mindpop @nmartsinedyear

What a beautiful celebration for the 50th anniversary of Dolores Gonzales Elementary School. Hundreds of families, alumni, and former staff came together on Friday to honor five decades of learning, culture, and community. As the first dual language school in APS, Dolores Gonzales has paved the way for generations of bilingual learners and leaders. The pride in that legacy was felt in every hug, every story, and every conversation. Here’s to 50 years of impact and to all the students, educators, and families who continue to make Dolores Gonzales a shining part of APS.

🎉 Bridging Cultures Through Dance 🎉 Today, students from Native American Community Academy (NACA) visited Dolores Gonzales Elementary School (DGES) to share their beautiful traditions through dance! Middle and high school NACA dancers performed traditional Native American dances, giving DGES students a chance to experience and celebrate their culture. After the performances, students connected through conversation, asking questions and learning from one another. A huge thank you to NACA for sharing your artistry and heritage with us! Events like these bring our communities closer and inspire appreciation for diverse cultures. 🌎❤️

Russell R., teacher at Dolores Gonzales Elementary, sent us this video from a recent performance at the school. The hip-hop dance group Zia Queens put on an exciting show for the students, and then the students—and even the staff—jumped in to dance along. This performance was part of the Dolores Gonzales Espectáculo Artists Series, bringing live arts experiences to the school community!
