830 Brickell has officially earned LEED Gold certification, further securing its place as a highly sustainable, Class A+ office tower. Rising 724 feet in Downtown Miami, the dynamic, reinforced concrete structure is enclosed by a kinetic façade that moves with wind and light. Our structural engineers designed the 57-story high-rise, addressing such challenges as an off-center shear wall core—particularly challenging in a hurricane zone—and expansive cantilevers that create large, open office spaces. Among other sustainable features, we used high-strength concrete to create slimmer structural elements, reducing materials costs and adding efficiency. The tower also incorporates energy-efficient HVAC systems, which reduces the typically high cooling energy in the very warm region. Developed by @oko_group and designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architects and @revuelta_ , 830 Brickell has also achieved WiredScore and Energy-Efficient Envelope certifications. Our structural engineering team was led by Managing Principal Luis Ramirez, PE, SI, FRSE, and Senior Associate Milo Adams, PE. The head of our façade and building envelope team, Principal Rok Lee, AIA, provided building maintenance consulting. What a fantastic turnout for our presentation on the Olara Residences in West Palm Beach for our friends at the @verticalurbanism South Florida. A cross section of A/E industry professionals and experts joined us to hear about what it took to design and develop this luxury residence on the South Florida waterfront. The engaging and highly entertaining event featured our own DeSimone Principal and structural engineer Danilo Nanni, PE, SI, along with architect and @arquitectonicaarchitecture Principal and Miami Office Director Sherri Gutierrez , AIA, and Associate Principal Carlos Ortiz, PE, and Senior Project Manager Omar Conte, PE, from geotechnical engineer @langanengenv to tell the story of how the team realized the architectural vision the 26-story, two-tower, 1.6M SF Olara Residences—while singers from the event host, the Florida Grand Opera at the OMNI, including tenor, Josue Brizuela, soprano, Susana Diaz, mezzo soprano, Catherin Meza, and pianist Jared Peroune treated the audience to an outstanding performance of three arias, leaving the event attendees both dazzled…and informed! Danilo Nanni explained how DeSimone’s structural engineers designed a structure that can withstand high hurricane winds, while staying true to the original architectural vision. In her presentation, Sherri Guttieriez discussed how Arquitectonica approached the design of each level, touching on how they brought the design scheme into the entrance, amenity floors, and residences. Carlos Ortiz and Omar Conte from Langan focused on the foundations and subsurface conditions of the 4-acre site, diving into location-related considerations, evaluations, and solutions. #DeSimoneConsultingEngineering #CVU #CouncilonVerticalUrbanism #WaterfrontDevelopment #SouthFloridaConstruction #StructuralEngineering #Arquitectonica #Archiecture

Representatives from DeSimone’s structural engineering team joined the client, architect, and other team members to celebrate the topping out at 290 Coles Street in Jersey City, a major milestone in the construction of this two-tower residential complex. As structural engineers for the project, our team designed a cast-in-place concrete superstructure with a series of complex transfer elements that accommodate transitions between residential, amenity, parking, and retail programming. Faced with poor geotechnical conditions, we collaborated closely with the geotechnical engineer, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, to create a foundation system that minimized the added load onto the existing soil to avoid settlement. Designed by @mhs_architects and developed by @bxp_inc , CrossHarbor Capital, and the @albanese_organization , the full-block development will contain 670 residential units, 13,000 SF of retail, 350 parking spaces, and 70,000 SF of amenity spaces, with anticipated completion in Spring of 2028. Pictured above at the topping out ceremony are (L-R): Associate Principal Matthieu Peuler, PE, Project Manager Megan Schmitt, Project Engineer Kerem Marin, Field Inspector Edward Monroy, and Senior Project Engineer Karla Aguilar. @commercial_observer featured @thewillow_gramercy , developer @naftali_group ’s latest luxury residential development at 201 East 23rd Street in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park neighborhood. The 19-story, 69-unit structure brings a boutique residential experience to one of New York City’s most historic neighborhoods, with architecture by @cookfox Architects and amenities designed by @rockwellgroup . Led by Managing Principal Mukesh Parikh, PE, and Associate Principal Matthieu Peuler, PE, DeSimone’s structural engineers brought engineering innovation to the fast-tracked project, tackling complex challenges such as loggias supported by single columns and foundation constraints, and creating a structure that blends thoughtful design, neighborhood history, and modern luxury living in the heart of Gramercy. Named as a nod to Gramercy Park’s history, The Willow draws inspiration from one of the first tree species planted in the park in the late 1800s. The project’s design carries that narrative throughout, from its arched brick façade to a rooftop amenity space featuring a willow tree, dining and lounge areas, and grilling stations. Additional amenities include a ground-floor library, landscaped courtyard garden, fitness center, sauna, movie room, music space, and the Mermaid Room, a speakeasy-style wet bar that incorporates a salvaged mermaid medallion from the original site. In an article co-written for Healthcare Facilities Today, Principal Jarret Johnson, PE, and Associate Principal Tuna Yelkikanat, PE, share proactive structural engineering strategies to help address a number of challenges facing healthcare and life sciences developments today—including economic uncertainty, regulatory shifts, and evolving policy landscapes. Complex healthcare projects often involve juggling conflicting priorities, multiple stakeholders, and an extensive approval process—adding time and cost. By integrating the detailing process into the design phase, project teams can make informed decisions during bid, significantly reducing cost uncertainty and speeding up construction timelines. Citing two of our recent projects, Jarret and Tuna demonstrate how DeSimone has responded to increasing demand for flexibility in lab spaces. For the 585,000 SF Life Sciences Center at 2 Harbor, a high-performance research hub in Boston, our team designed a vertically stacked, high-performance research hub. Its concrete structural system provides clean ceilings and unobstructed views to the waterfront while supporting flexible floorplates that can shift between wet and dry lab configurations as tenants evolve. At West End Labs, the adaptive reuse of an automotive showroom and repair facility, DeSimone engineers helped transform the 1920s structure to meet market demand for life sciences space while avoiding the costs associated with new construction. The modern, 380,000 SF research facility was designed to be scalable through the inclusion of connection points on each floor allowing customizable lab space for future tenants.
