A trip to Africa changed everything for photographer and filmmaker Lougè Delcy (@dapperlou ). As a Haitian American growing up in Brooklyn, New York, he’d always been curious about the continent, but it wasn’t until his first visit a decade ago that he felt something awaken inside him. Since then, he's been on a mission to document people and places across the African diaspora, using his signature blend of bold hues and cinematic framing. "I see myself not only as an artist but an educator,” he says. Read the full interview at the link in bio. This is one of my favorite moments from Black Voyage. Early morning. We gathered the students for this overhead shot. No direction could match what they brought on their own. PURE BLACK JOY. For me, this frame says everything. The youth. The spirit. The future already in motion. Honored to share that the film is nominated for a Webby Award. If the story moves you, I’d appreciate your vote. How to vote: 1. Click the link in bio 2. Sign in or create an account 3. Search “Black Voyage | National Geographic” 4. I had the chance to spend some time in Trinidad leading up to Carnival. 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹 I went there to document it, but I also learned a lot just by being around the process. Seeing the work that goes into Carnival really changed how I look at it. It’s easy to see it as just a big celebration, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of dedication. People working long hours building costumes, preparing the music, organizing everything. A lot of pride and craftsmanship goes into it. I was grateful to not only document it, but to spend time with the people who make it all happen. It gave me a deeper respect for the culture and the work behind Carnival. Looking forward to sharing this series. Special thanks to @jimmyoctober & @shotbycorri @keythos Costume : @carnivaltribe @jprichardsontt Stylist/Producer : @Keythos Muse : @NailahBlackman

I’m SOOOO excited to share a first look at my new film, Rhythm Family in collaboration with Bermuda Tourism Authority . 🥁🇧🇲 About Rhythm Family Directed by Lougé Delcy, Rhythm Family is a cinematic portrait of the iconic Bermuda Gombey, a living tradition that is as spiritual as it is spectacular. Told through the eyes of one performer, the film moves beyond the vibrant feathers and hypnotic drums to uncover a lineage of pride, resistance, and artistry passed down through generations. With sweeping visuals, intimate storytelling, and the steady heartbeat of the drum as its guide, Rhythm Family captures the brotherhood, craftsmanship, and creative discipline that define the Bermuda Gombey. More than performance, it is a symbol of national pride, carrying joy, connection, and cultural memory for all who encounter it. “As long as the drum keeps beating, we keep moving forward.” Launching this summer, Rhythm Family begins a series of authentic, untold Bermudian stories. Stay tuned. ⸻ Credits Director and Writer: Lougé Delcy Director of Photography: Herman L. WOW WOW WOW. I just won my FIRST award as a film director for my documentary The Black Voyage. Best Travel Documentary of the year 2025 🇰🇪🏆🎥 Thank you so much to the @kenyatourismawards for this honor. This work is a celebration of culture, and to have it recognized and embraced by the community truly means the world to me. Being acknowledged for work created on the continent hits different. It feels full circle, especially as this year marks 10 years since I first visited the continent. So much love and gratitude to the team who helped bring this vision to life. This would not exist without you. Special thanks to @olimbamaracamp for making this the most beautiful and meaningful collaboration. Thank you @natgeo for trusting my vision. I returned to Kenya with @natgeo to dive deeper into the life of the Maasai people. My first visit was back in 2018, and over the years I’ve learned that real connection takes full immersion. Sometimes that means putting the camera down—to listen, learn, and truly feel the culture. There were still so many questions left unanswered after that first trip. This time, I came back with more intention. In this travel episode, I explore the Maasai way of life not just through the lens, but through lived experience. Watch the journey now on NatGeo’s YouTube channel.
