This weekend @stevej704 and I climbed a new 420m WI4 "Great Balls of Fire" in the newer Top Gun Zone. In 2018 Steve and I went on an exploratory mission into an unclimbed area establishing the first route “Jesters Dead”. We named the area Top Gun after the cult classic movie. Since 2018 over 10 new routes have been established up to Grade 6. Back in the day, collecting European Flounder and Arctic Char samples for my masters thesis on impacts of climate change on Icelandic salmonids. After this study in the Westfjords, more students at the University Centre of the Westfjords started to conduct more research into the range expansion of European Flounder into Icelandic waters due to the increase of ocean temperatures. Magical day on the Yalakom and Bridge River. Valleys. @stevej704 and I climbed two classic grade WI3 that climb directly out of the Yalakom River, which have have come in various years but never hiked to the base. They are 50m apart and approximately 1km past Scared Rabbits, which is also in and fat. With 200m of ice to climb. 50.94765° N, 122.28910° W. The routes are as followed
The Tortoise 🐢: WI3, 30m
The Hare 🐇: WI3: 100m
The next route we climbed was along the Bridge River. 50.809927, -122.027579. Park at the 60km sign across from gated drive way. Hike down drainage staying left. Find a large pine tree with tat around root. Rappel using a 70m dynamic rope down the drainage to the base of river. Leave as a fixed single line, in case of retreat. You will see multiple steep vertical lines and endless mixed potential. The route climbed right of the main running water on steep featured vertical ice for 35m.

@pwatson78 and I, put up a new route up the Bridge River. After both of us scoping the line for a number of years we decided to team up and head up the long approach to the base of the climb. The new route is located high and to the right of “Troubled Waters” WI4 drainage.
