Within #scottcooper ‘s exhilarating, moving & inspirational film, based on Warren Zane’s literary account of the making of Nebraska, there lies far more than a biopic of
@springsteen . My father has been virtually absent from my life since I was 6 weeks old. He popped in and out over the years, sometimes making me feel happy, on the rare occasion I even felt loved as a son, more often than not it was the opposite of both. He’s met my 21 yr old daughter once. He’s never met our 10 yr old. He’s never guided me. I will likely never see him again. But, like
@springsteen , I will always have love for him somehow. I stopped communicating with him several years ago when he simply became too much, accusing my daughters and I of abandoning him?!. I think, even if this were true, at least he’d had over 60 years of life, to meet and gather friends, surround himself with people & to feel safe. I had lived for 6 weeks when he abandoned me and that IS true. I’m not saying any of this for sympathy, I’m way past that, I’m saying it because that which lies within #springsteendelivermefromnowhere is one of the most gut-wrenchingly relatable and beautifully executed stories of a son yearning for a father.
@jeremyallenwhitefinally delivers the pain felt by
@springsteen in the most subtle, yet powerful way. My dearest pal
@stephengraham1973 , who IS one of the greatest dads that I know, portrays Doug Springsteen as a man as equally pained as his son - but unlike his son, he can’t express this through creativity, nor will his pride allow him to admit the pain. It’s confusing being abandoned by a parent but it certainly taught me one thing - how to be a great fuc*king dad. #odessayoung #jeremystrong
