Before Christmas I was lucky enough to shoot this piece written by Lauren to create awareness about mens mental health a subject that now more than ever needs to be spoken about. It was a privilege to say Lauren’s words and work with Corey & Kirean on this. The piece has been put out on Social media by @hotelfootballuk check out their page. The film has been supported by a number of mental health charities such as
We all came together to promote awareness and get a conversation going about what is still statistically the biggest killer in young men. 84 men a week take their own lives with 75% of all reported suicides being male. This is a massive subject not just today with it being blue Monday or on Mental health awareness day/week but EVERY day. We need to talk more about this as a young man I have had ups and downs but have always found talking really does help.
If this video can help one person male or female then we have done our job. If you’re struggling just reach out to someone it can be anyone and you will be surprised just how many people want to help and how loved you really are. You can get through it no matter how hard it may seem.
Talking really does help and it’s okay not to be okay.
If you could please share this on your stories and across your social media to help spread this message and to put an end to the stigma we would really appreciate it.

That is the end of one of the most physically and emotionally/mentally challenging roles I have ever played and possibly ever will do. I feel incredibly lucky to have been allowed to play such an Iconic character as Yosser Hughes and tell the story of the legendary Boys From The Blackstuff across the country.
6 months on tour was harder than I could’ve expected with the demanding schedule and living out of a suitcase in a different city or town each week however it was made easier by some of the new friendships formed and for that I’m grateful.
Being truthful at times I was unsure if I could carry on if I had it in me to repeat the same amount of dedication and energy this role requires 8 times a week for 6 months but I managed to find it and I can honestly say I gave it 150% every single performance and left everything I had on the stage because thats the only way I know how. Playing Yosser was challenging professionally and personally portraying a man having what is in essence a mental breakdown on stage for 6 months took it’s toll on my own mental state along with my body trapped nerves, bashed up knees, damaged hands, scratched eyeballs, blurred vision and even random nose bleeds and coughing up blood on stage because of the tension in my body carrying the weight of the role along with a huge story and trying my best to lead from the front and by example. I learnt a lot about myself as a person playing Yosser and at times it felt like I was whacking my head against a brick wall it reminded me to always fight for what you believe in and that your standards as a person as well as an actor should never be compromised.
I feel honoured to be one of only 3 men to be able to completely embody this character going to to the depths to find the truth and tell the story of the incredible force that is Yosser Hughes.
Now it’s time to switch off go on holiday rest get my body working properly again spend time with my family friends and girlfriend and prepare for my next and most important role becoming a Dad.
See you later Yoz lad!
BACK ON OUR PERCH
Don’t think I will ever get over Sunday finally getting to be in that ground to see us do it. We’ve seen it all now all those years spent going home & away with my mates even when we was rubbish spending all your money on going the match as kids to that on Sunday makes it all worth it.
We lost my uncle Tony in January and it was his son, our Anthony’s birthday on Sunday singing You’ll Never Walk Alone at the end had me in bits ❤️🙏🔴

Thank you for inviting me and mum to see you @jayjohnson_1 you smashed it, blew us away. Mum loved the show and you. Incredibly well directed. A powerful production. Delivered with dry humour, heart and passion. I used to watch this show when I was a kid. Your portrayal of Yosser Hughes was fantastic. Passionate and very moving.
GO SEE IT! Well done everyone.
Giz a job, I can do that! #bop
