Cumulus is proud to be a Certified B Corporation. After receiving our certification in May 2023, it will soon be a year since we joined a globally recognised community of businesses that meet high standards of social, cultural, and environmental corporate governance. B Corp status independently verifies our responsibility and impact we are currently making as a company and provides a framework to take our aspirations in all these areas much further in the coming years. Whilst Cumulus was the second Tasmanian-owned business to be certified, there are now over 500 B Corps in Australia, and more than 8000 worldwide across 150+ industries and 96 countries. Our certification is aligned with our carbon-positive status across all studios; Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Adelaide. Throughout our first #BCorpMonth, we will continue to share our commitments towards, maintaining, and beyond our certification. Follow the journey on our socials, or click the Sustainability link in our bio to find out more. #CumulusStudio #BCorp @bcorporation @bcorpanz Image: @anjieblair

On an exposed rise above the North Esk River, the wind is always part of the brief. Riverstone by Cumulus was designed around it. The home folds to create a protected east-facing courtyard, a spotted gum screen spans the western façade controlling airflow and shade, and passive ventilation through the open plan eliminates the need for air-conditioning entirely. Calm, considered and rooted in its site. The complete project — every decision, every finish, every professional who shaped it — is on ArchiPro. We’re excited to share that our design for the $150 Million Chocolate Experience at Cadbury Claremont @chocolate_experience_cadbury has received planning approval from Glenorchy City Council - marking a major milestone after 15 years of research and collaboration. This project has never been about an iconic object, but about crafting an experience. Conceived as worlds within worlds, the architecture unfolds as a series of immersive, interconnected spaces - developed with @artprocessors - that invite exploration, discovery and return. This includes a full production experience, a premium chocolate studio featuring Tasmanian ingredients, a chocolate lounge, emporium, and arrival by purpose-built ferry across the River Derwent. Grounded in the idea of a factory in a parkland, the design extends the existing Cadbury site into the landscape - connecting river, gardens and community. It celebrates over a century of shared history, while giving it new life. We’re proud to be working with Cadbury, Evolve Tourism, Simon Currant &n Associates, and Mondelez Australia on this major tourism project. We look forward to inviting you to the opening in 2028! Construction is underway on the Launceston Airport Departures Gate Expansion. Following our recently completed Departures Lounge and Amenities refresh, this project marks the next phase of a long-term master plan, positioning Tasmania’s northern gateway as a showcase for local materials and skilled craftsmanship. Designed around the passenger journey, the expansion considers how people move, pause, and experience the terminal. The project delivers an additional 600m2 of terminal area, comprising of new and expanded boarding gates, supported by purpose built furniture and joinery to enhance the passenger experience. Thanks to our client @launcestonairport and collaborators @beardwood_group , @mattprincedesign , JMG Engineers, @southern__lighting , looking forward to seeing it take shape. #CumulusStudio #LauncestonAirport #Tasmania #Architecture #AirportDesign PublicArchitecture

We're honoured to share that Balfour Street Terrace has been shortlisted in the Residential Architecture - Alterations and Additions category of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) 2026 Tasmanian Chapter Awards. Balfour Terrace is an 1860s heritage terrace in northern Tasmania. The brief was to create a space that better facilitated family life, while retaining a connection to the building's significant heritage character and maximising its exposure to the sun. We took our cues entirely from the building's own language: its symmetry, proportions, arched windows, and chimney pot shaped a proposal conceived as a single, simple idea. Sustainability was a critical consideration, with locally sourced carbon-neutral bricks, Tasmanian oak flooring and veneers, and Tasmanian-made plywood featuring throughout. The heritage character of the original craftsmanship remains the first thing you notice. Everything else is light-filled and made for everyday life. Congratulations to all shortlisted entrants. We were pleased to host the @universityoftasmania 's School of Architecture and Design Firm Crawl at our Hobart studio last Friday. Around 20 students made the visit, and it was a genuine pleasure to open the studio and share some of what we do. Peter Walker and Ben Sheehan presented a selection of our work and spoke about our approach, followed by relaxed conversations with students across the team. Thank you to the organisers and students for including us. We value the chance to connect with the next generation of architects in Tasmania. @darchside_utas @sona_australia #SONAStudent #CumulusStudio #Architects #australianarchitecture #tasmanianarchitecture #ArchitectureStudents #FutureArchitects

We're proud to share that Claremont has been shortlisted in the Heritage category of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) 2026 Tasmanian Chapter Awards. Built in 1843 using clay dug from its own cellar, Claremont is one of Australia's oldest examples of the pisé building technique. Our approach was centred on revealing its original workmanship rather than replacing it. Material conservation guided every decision for this project. Original balustrades and verandah trims were restored by hand. The long-abandoned original verandah was reimagined as a living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom, drawing the bedrooms back toward light, garden, and street. The stories of those who have called Claremont home over the past two centuries live on through its considered restoration. Congratulations to all shortlisted entrants. We're thrilled to share that Queens Walk Housing has been shortlisted in the Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing category of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) 2026 Tasmanian Chapter Awards. Our design for Queens Walk, 65 new affordable housing apartments at the edge of Hobart's city centre, draws from the site's original 1950s International Style architecture, continuing its rhythm rather than interrupting it. The established language of order and repetition is honoured, while subtle variations introduce generosity: high ceilings, wide balconies, and open corridors looking out to the surrounding landscape. Inside, flexible spaces and four alternating colour schemes allow each resident to shape their own home. A quiet recognition that a home is a personal thing, regardless of tenure. Developed by Housing Choices with funding from Homes Tasmania. Built to feel like home. Congratulations to all shortlisted entrants. To view this and all our projects, visit the link in our bio. We're excited to share that Legana Primary School has been shortlisted in the Educational Architecture category of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) 2026 Tasmanian Chapter Awards. We designed Legana Primary School as an infinite loop of learning. The school's sinuous form wraps fourteen General Learning Areas around a central courtyard, sheltered under one continuous roof. Classrooms are orientated inward, so students move through year levels with a sense of their own journey: where they have come from, and where they are headed. The natural colour palette draws from the West Tamar's distinctive wetlands and wildlife, complemented by the earthy tones of locally sourced brick and metal cladding. Curious, connected, and grounded in its landscape. Congratulations to all shortlisted entrants. To view this and all our projects, visit the link in bio. Good design doesn't announce itself. It just works. It responds to its environment, serves the people within it, and stands the test of time. We're proud to share that our Director, Todd Henderson, will be joining the jury for the 2026 @scape_awards of Excellence, alongside an exceptional group of international architects and designers. Todd looks forward to recognising the work that gets this balance right: beautiful, functional, and built with intention. #CumulusStudio #architecture @scape_magazine , @scape_awards , @oggieflooring , @infinitysurfacesza
