Meet Nick, owner and founder of Oggie Flooring…
My journey with Oggie began in 2006 with a simple idea and a single container of wood. I had secured funding for my first shipment and personally sold every plank, never imagining that I was laying the foundation for a brand that would grow far beyond my expectations.
In those early days, it was just me and a receptionist. Today, Oggie has grown into a company I’m incredibly proud of, employing over 60 people and delivering handcrafted, premium wood products to homes and commercial spaces across Africa.
My connection to flooring started long before Oggie. I grew up in East London, where my father ran a carpet business. From the age of nine, I worked there during school holidays and weekends, earning pocket money and learning the trade. Those early experiences taught me the value of hard work, attention to detail, and, most importantly, how to take care of customers.
I spent seven years in the family business, traveling across South Africa, measuring floors, meeting clients, and gaining firsthand experience in the industry. Then, during a chance project involving wood flooring, I saw an opportunity—there was a gap in the market for high-quality hardwood products. That realisation sparked the idea that would later become Oggie.
Looking back, I believe Oggie’s success comes down to four simple but powerful principles: delivering excellent customer service, investing in my employees, maintaining professional marketing, and never compromising on quality. These values have guided me for nearly two decades and have earned the trust of architects, designers, developers, and homeowners.
Sustainability is also at the heart of what I do. Every piece of wood I use is sourced from certified sustainable forests.
What started as a small operation has grown into something much bigger, but at its core, Oggie remains true to the same values I built it on—quality, integrity, and a passion for creating beautiful spaces.
