Had a great time meeting everyone at the fantastic Buchla & Friends event in downtown LA. Really inspiring to talk face-to-face with artists, musicians and intrigued readers. Thanks to Eric and Peter at Buchla for hosting and to Juan Manuel Escalante for joining and contributing artwork for our booth. Always nice to see old friends and colleagues. #missionsynths #perfectcircuit #controlvoltage #roberthenke #nonotak
I know many have been waiting for the VENO ORBIT from @venusinstruments to release and it's turned into a huge powerhouse of audio & CV sampling and looping.
I've never had the chance to work with CV in this way before and the audio side is endless in possibilities too but fun and simple due to no menus and a control per function.
Check out the full demo to see how you can play and record - on the fly - keeping musicality and creativity at the forefront without the steep learning curve.
Full demo on the @divkidvideo YouTube channel.
The Veno Orbit is out today with stock at @foundsound_@ctrlmod@filtermusikk.no@nightlife_electronics@schneiderskeller@schneidersladen@signal_sounds@boutiquepedalnyc@house_of_sound_switzerland@noisebug & @synthshop_no

After five long years, the follow up to Open Source is finally in stores today! Open Source 02 is a 112 page hardcover book that would not exist without the contributions of a myriad of writers, musicians, installation artists, synth designers, filmmakers, illustrators, painters, printing experts, graphic designers and technicians. It has been a collaboration that spans the globe from Spain, Germany & France to Australia, Korea and Mexico. Check out the new website at opsrc.co for a lot more details on the content, collaborators and artwork featured in the book.
Open Source 02 is now available at:
Control in Brooklyn/New York @ctrlmod
Mission Synths in SF, CA @missionsynths
Perfect Circuit in Burbank/LA @perfect_circuit
Control Voltage in Portland, OR @controlvoltage
Initial quantities will be very limited. Please call the shops ahead of time to see if they are still carrying any copies in stock. If they are out, please express your interest. A wider release is being planned toward the end of the year around the holidays.
The ubiquitously named Open Source project was born out of the motivation to give artists an enduring forum to speak to their audience and document the creative process and inspiration behind their works. Curating timeless content in a hardcover book celebrates the physical and tactile experience that has been undermined by disembodied online news feeds. It is my hope OS02 inspires people to find new ways to approach their art and to seek out the many fantastically talented contributors featured in the book.
This video excerpt is from the last Open Source event in downtown San Jose and features Kurt Kurasaki @peff performing on his Buchla, Rudy Colon @rudo_rudeboi on projection art, and Danny Kim @distco on lasers.

HELLO DARLING, ARE YOU WORKING?
// These days itās all up in the air isnāt it? I mean really. I feel guilty for performing, ashamed of showing us celebrating and dancing, angry at those who just carry on like nothingās wrong, suspicious of everyone in yoga pants and a baseball hat, and yet I know (read that as I KNOW) that anger turned inward is depression, grief held is anxiety, and as creatives, if we donāt produce then it comes out wrong. It has to come out. Itās as if itās bigger than us, and itās our strange curse to receive, interpret or translate and transmit. So it feels good to use this fuel, to channel anger into polyrhythm, run on sentences, blank verse, and double exposures. It feels good to turn grief into meticulous cut outs of printed characters on velum, layered over a Polaroid, or print. It feels real to take things apart, find the faults and restore them. What feels strange is flying off to somewhere, singing about love, talking about the bees, and then heading home. There is a loneliness in all of this for me right now. I neither want to turn away, nor do I want to try and hold it all. This must become a flow.
Of my peers and friends who are artists, like it or not, claim it or not, I see such a hustle. Things have never been more expensive or stressful. Rent has more than doubled, and yet I havenāt raised my price in over 10 years. Right now I feel guilty charging anything. I want to give it all away for free. Especially because my dear ones, whom I would do anything for, always strive to meet my fee (or more) and yet āprofessionalsā demand a discount. Whatever you say your fee is, they offer half that. I donāt like to negotiate, so I just pass. Fancy-pants are not my people anyway. How do we reconcile these pieces?
My instincts are to press on. To find a way to trust, to make more art. Say yes more often, make records, sing, dance, take pictures, write essays and go. Believe that the outcome will be good, kind, and just. They say that everything will be ok in the end. And if itās not ok, itās not the end.
Have you moved into more āpaid workā to make ends meet? Or are you working at all? You ok?

tonight is london
why tell you in advance
would you come
i feel like mourning
i do not feel like dancing
my melody is bisan smiling
as military drones buzz in the back
my drum is videos of the seconds before a bomb falls
and then another
and then another
clips scroll past
as fast as my thumb flicks
no end in sight
come
do not
come
i will try to record it for you
maybe tomorrow you will have
this white man
interfering in your scroll
between the clips
demons unleashed
drones circling
