Time sure does fly when you’re just focused on work and family. So a couple weeks ago I committed myself to making a new modular patch for the first time since my performance on Piqued in January. I incorporated some cool closeup shots from my Panasonic GH4 and Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f0.95 lens. Got a bit of visual effects inspiration from Nam June Paik for the second half of the video. For my niece’s thirteenth birthday, I wanted to give her a meaningful gift to commemorate the beginning of her teens and subsequent journey into adulthood. One of my favorite memories was introducing synthesizers to her as an infant in the form of SynthX on the iPad. So today, this proud uncle gave her a Yamaha DX-11 FM keyboard synthesizer from 1988. She has been learning the piano and started writing music, so it seemed like a perfect time to start her on synthesis. My first hardware synth was a Yamaha DX-7, so its multi-timbral descendant seemed appropriate. They grow up so fast! P.S. Dire Straits used the DX-7 extensively on their Brothers in Arms album, hence the classic 80s track.

Really grateful having the opportunity to watch Glengarry Glen Ross on closing weekend, my first time attending a live Broadway show. Stellar cast featuring Bill Burr as Dave Moss, Bob Odenkirk as Shelley Levene and Kieran Culkin as Ricky Roma. Michael McKean (who coincidentally plays Bob Odenkirk’s brother in Better Call Saul) was also a nice addition to the cast. The performances were superb and entertaining. Each actor brought their own unique interpretations of their characters. It was amazing to see performers on stage, about 20 feet away. The bar and office sets were incredibly detailed and lit.
