We are thrilled to be one of the six partner workshops featured in The Print Center's (@theprintcenter ) upcoming exhibition "America Today: Voices in Contemporary Print." The groundbreaking show highlights the power of print as a medium for expressing political ideals and urgent societal concerns. “America Today” brings together contemporary works by 38 artists from six community-centered, mission-based printshops across the US to consider the breadth of democracy and the American experience in the context of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Tommy Williamson - Nez Perce Tribal Member Tommy will lead a two‑day evening, hands‑on workshop sharing traditional and contemporary skills passed down through his family and community. A versatile artist and cultural bearer, Tommy creates leg and ankle bells, drums, beadwork, applique, apparel, jewelry, bags, purses, powwow regalia and more. As lead singer of Lightning Creek, he has traveled worldwide, sharing his music, stories, and traditional knowledge—especially with his children—instilling pride and honor in every piece he makes. In this two‑evening workshop you will learn to make ankle and/or leg bells in men’s or boys’ sizes using metal bells, leather straps, and buckles. Tommy will demonstrate how to cut and work leather, explain the tools required, and show different styles and color options so you can customize your own set. Expect practical demonstrations, guided hands‑on practice, and cultural context behind the work. Updated Dates - April 18-19 EllaMae Looney – Yakama Nation Tribal Member, Artist & Cultural Practitioner EllaMae Looney is an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation who was raised on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation reservation. Growing up surrounded by culture, family, and community, she spent much of her life in the longhouse and traveling the powwow trail, where she developed a deep connection to traditional arts, creativity, and cultural teachings. EllaMae is a multidisciplinary artist whose talents include beadwork, painting, and other forms of creative expression. She is also the owner of ERL Studio, where she creates and sells apparel, jewelry, and other art-inspired items that reflect her unique style and cultural influences. Her beadwork reflects both cultural knowledge and personal creativity, shaped by years of learning through observation, practice, and community teachings. In this 2-day Introduction to Beading workshop, EllaMae will guide participants through the fundamentals of beadwork.
