This winter’s Community Creations workshop series was an absolute delight to host! 💓A heartfelt thanks to to everyone who joined us across this workshop series. It is an honour to share these spaces with our community, and a privilege to witness creativity being fostered, talent cultivated, and meaningful memories made together. Travel home with the magic of zine-making on the third workshop of the Community Creations series by Creato! ✂️Facilitated by artist @lapupila999 , “Casa Zine-Making” Participants will create house-shaped zines using accessible materials as an exploration of personal and collective symbols of home and belonging. 🗓️Sat Feb 21st ⏰ 10:30-1:30 PM 📍225 Geary Ave (Second Floor) 🎟️ $25 or PWYC (materials included) ✨About the Facilitator: La Pupila (Valentina Lozano Leon) (she/her) is a Colombian artist based in Toronto. Her art focuses on exploring feminine energy, often with an aura of melancholy. Through symbols, distorted forms and evocative faces, she hopes to illustrate their fears, hopes and desire for a tender world. While deeply personal, her work approaches these themes with a poetic and gentle visual language, creating space for introspection and connection. Working across graphic design & textiles, her practice is rooted in hands-on making & community spaces. With experience in Graphic Design, Interactive Media Design, photography, pattern design, & art direction for film and television, and exhibitions with Sur Gallery, A Space, The Textile Museum of Canada, as well as at local design and cultural markets, including Creato, Wychwood Barns, and Evergreen Brick Works’ Day of the Dead celebration. The first workshop of the Community Creations workshop series by Creato, is a very special one. 🪡Facilitated by Venezuelan-born artist @lil_arepa , “Upcycled Weaving for Collective Imagination“, participants will be guided through upcycled weaving as a means of calming the nervous system and creating a container for collective imagination of homeland. ⚠️Within the context of the current political turmoil, to center Venezuelan voices, this workshop will be for participants of the Venezuelan diaspora only. 🗓️Thu Feb 12th ⏰6:30 - 9:30PM 📍225 Geary Ave (Second Floor) 🎟️$25 (materials included) Register on the 🔗link in bio ✨About the Facilitator: Camila Salcedo (they/she) is a Venezuelan-born, Tkaronto-based interdisciplinary artist working in textiles, community art and curation. 🪩Ahhh!!! We are still beaming from our anniversary celebration with @sonicsancocho . There are few words to describe the energy we felt that night and it’s all thanks to each and every one of you that showed up to celebrate and support YOUR community 🥹 ✨Between the vibes of the music thanks to @a_l_f_a_l_f_a @astoria.synth @olasconola and @analuisaaaaaa + the energy brought by @consequencephoto @dixydixy @mar.hair @by.drawingto and all the artists featured at the mercadito the space was just absolutely buzzing with joy, style and creativity. Endless gratitude to everyone who amplified this event, the volunteers who ran around doing whatever they could to make this happen, the bartenders who served with a smile, the incredible sponsors who kept us hydrated and happy @bellwoodsbeer @drinksoandso @casadelreytequila and our wonderful venue host @itsok.world - it really takes a village.
