Last weekend we attended All Is Well, Norwich’s new wellness weekender, two days at Carrow House with the spring sun out in full force 🌞 The setting alone was worth the trip. Carrow House was the Colman family home, yes, the Norwich mustard Colmans, and the Victorian conservatory at the back, with its stained glass and mosaic floor, is one of the most unique rooms in the city to roll out a mat in. The programme did the space justice, with back-to-back classes, talks, workshops, a street food market, wellness therapies, and Pink Sauna’s wild spa, with woodfired sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, a bast sauna tent and a quiet lounge to land in afterwards. An incredible weekend demonstrating community coming together to create something considered, nourishing, and unmistakably Norwich. @all_is_well_wellness @glasshouse_studio_ @carrow_house 📸 @samharrons

PLACES / BIRD Copenhagen 📍 Listening bars are having a moment. From Paris to New York to our own Norwich, the kissa tradition is quietly taking over European cities — low light, good sound, cocktails built for people who want to actually hear each other. Finding the best one has become part of how we travel now. Last year, on our first visit to Copenhagen, Bird was the one that stopped us. There are two. Bird : Uptown on Gl. Kongevej, the original — cosier, evenings only, jazz from a vinyl deck, hand-built speakers, custom-made hardware. And Bird : Downtown on Palægade in the Inner City, the newer sibling — brighter, open from 11am, coffee and pastries by day, cocktails by night. Both share the same idea: no shakers, no noise. Every cocktail is pre-batched and stored in apothecary bottles behind the bar, so the room stays quiet enough for the music to lead. The acoustics shape everything. The layout puts strangers next to each other. We went for a drink and ended up making friends for life. Denmark’s Best Cocktail Bar 2024. #66 in The World’s 50 Best Bars. Start with the Bonfire Manhattan. Stay for whoever’s on the decks. 📍 Uptown — Gl. Kongevej 102, Frederiksberg 📍 Downtown — Palægade 8, Inner City 🎵 @bird.cph

It’s official — Norwich has been named the UK’s best place to live by The Sunday Times. Number one out of 72 locations. The only city in Britain to feature in all 14 editions of the guide. Ever. This one’s for everyone who makes this city what it is. The independent café owners, chefs, makers, artists, DJs, shopkeepers, bartenders, market traders, and quiet mavericks who’ve been doing extraordinary things here for years. And for the people working behind the scenes to champion Norwich and put it on the map. This accolade belongs to the whole city. We’ve been celebrating Norwich’s independent spirit since 2012, when we started out as SHHHH — a printed guide to the city’s best-kept secrets. We’ve been publishing these guides ever since, because we believe the people and places inside them deserve it. What you’re seeing here is just a glimpse — a selection of the businesses and spots we love in the city. But it really is the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much more to discover right across Norwich and Norfolk, and so many brilliant new businesses have opened since we published our guide. We can’t wait to feature them in the next edition. As it happens, by pure coincidence, the same day this was announced is the same day our comprehensive guide to Norwich and Norfolk became available again after a little hiatus. Fate, clearly 💫 So if you’re curious about visiting, thinking about moving here, studying here, or even setting up a business — it’s there for you at compendia.co.uk. Here’s to Norwich. Here’s to everyone in it. 🤍 📸 Photography by @samharrons . . .

Finally made it to @sociusnorfolk in Burnham Market. First time as a press visit, and after having it on the list for a while now, it was well worth the wait. Modern British sharing plates, locally sourced, seasonal, and served in a bright open-plan space where you can watch the kitchen at work. AA Restaurant of the Year for England, Michelin Guide listed, and 2 AA Rosettes. The food was brilliant. One of Norfolk’s best. If you haven’t been, you must go! 📍 @sociusnorfolk

Their philosophy is simple: fair fashion, not fast fashion. Every piece is designed to last. We stayed at The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam in Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands — one of our favourite areas if you’re looking for a boutique hotel in Amsterdam away from the crowds but still close to the city centre. Dinner at Breman — The Hoxton’s in-house brasserie and bar. The bourguignon was a standout, and the dark chocolate crémeux was the perfect finish… Next morning: a run around the Amsterdam Docklands, then cycling Amsterdam’s canals after renting bikes from the hotel (free for guests). For us, tasting a city goes beyond food — it’s the culture, design, and neighbourhoods. If you’re wondering where to stay in Amsterdam Oost, this spot is a gem. With earlier sunsets and colder days setting in, here’s a time capsule from 72 light-filled hours in West London, filmed this May in partnership with @inhabit_hotels , @naturalmatuk , @vivobarefoot and @lavenham   72 hours in West London, built around a slower way to experience the city. We base ourselves at Inhabit, a B Corp certified wellness hotel in Paddington, with biophilic design throughout and Naturalmat mattresses in every room for a healthy, natural and deeply restful night’s sleep. After check-in and a quick reset, we lace up Vivo Barefoot and head out. Brunch is at Tab x Tab, then a walk through Holland Park and the Kyoto Garden. From there, it’s GoBoat in Paddington – before dinner at Mazi. We finish day one back at Inhabit with the gym, yoga, sauna and an early night. Day two starts with a slow morning, another chance to appreciate the Naturalmat mattress, followed by coffee and pastries at Kuro, then over to Labour and Wait to see their collaboration with British quilted outerwear brand Lavenham, whose lightweight layers are ideal for bright but still crisp spring days. Nearby, is Niwaki, featuring Japanese garden tools and considered homeware. Lunch is at Akub, chef Fadi Kattan’s Palestinian restaurant, then a Monocle Café coffee and quick Aesop stop in Marylebone before Rebase Recovery for contrast therapy – sauna, cold plunge and breathwork. The evening ends with natural wine and small plates at Sol’s, then in-room guided meditation and a bath back at Inhabit. On day three, a plant-based breakfast at Yeotown sets us up for Portobello Road: a visit to Couverture & The Garbstore, lunch at Holy Carrot, and time digging through records at Honest Jon’s, a local institution since the 1970s. We close the trip at Caia, a neighbourhood spot cooking over open fire with great wine and a serious vinyl collection. 72 hours of walking, green spaces, good food and restorative sleep – a gentle blueprint for your next West London stay 📍

While recently in Copenhagen, we stumbled upon the opening of Noma Projects’ new Flavor Shop, an inspiring greenhouse space adjacent to the legendary Noma. Designed by @oeo_studio , the shop blends café and pantry, translating Noma’s experimental spirit into a tactile, design-led experience. It’s an invitation to slow down, sip coffee, and explore flavours born in one of the world’s most creative kitchens. Noma Projects turns the restaurant’s boundary-pushing ideas into accessible pantry essentials, from their signature garums and vinegars to a thoughtful coffee programme, giving everyone a taste of Noma’s curiosity-driven ethos: 'Try New Things.' 📍 Noma Projects Flavor Shop, Copenhagen, @nomaprojects | nomaprojects.com
