Some frames! Shooting on 35mm always does it. Colors and textures do something a little extra. Always cool when a client is down to take a chance with the format. Ending the year with some things!! @kodak family came to me and said aye, we got a @cocacola thing for you.. I said, “yuhhhp.. wait, huh?”. They said.. “yuhhhpp, and you have to shoot it all on 8mm.” I said “….nooo0000oo… “ . In general, I’ve never been fan of SUPER8 and have always regarded it as motion pictures bastard child. . But! I was proven wrong. We focused on making 8mm feel like 16mm, and we got there. Sourced the sharpest lenses made for 8mm applications, got a bunch of 50D stock and pushed everything 1-Stop+ when the 85 filter would allow it. The project was a giant family affair from Brand right down to crew. The night before pitching to Coke, I hit @mcoreyw , my big homie, a mastermind filmmaker and a REAL lover of 8mm format; we wrote out this concept and before you knew it we were running around LA for 3 days with our homies young and.. younger. Shout out to my crazy 1st AC @klicquot , he built this @kodak_shootfilm SUPER8 camera into a production ready rig, all the control was pivotal to specific camera angles/mounts and squeezing as much image fidelity as we could. Shout out to the “do-all” of a gaffer @austindeats , a lover of light and a camera rigging wizard. Big thank you to @fresh.pryncee for always answering the call and rounding up the troops. We did a whole lot with a little, it was film school all over again. Oh! And massive thanks to @kodak Long Island Lab they turned over dense 4K scans in such a sort about of time. Some of the best scans I’ve ever received. And really.. thanks to the troops, for real, y’all continue to show up and create these universes with me. Self-Portrait No.1 - I wouldn’t call it a birthday post, but it does service. I’ve NEVER taken a self-portrait before. This is a significant time in my life, and in what is happening in life around me, to me, and to others in proximity.. 2024 was a mission to find peace, and 2025 is turning out to be the mission to try and maintain it.. And part of that maintenance is taking inventory; proving to yourself you still have it! The assignment found me and the experiment is to bear-witness to myself. A self-portrait is not like looking in a mirror, it’s not like talking a selfie. . You don’t get to adjust your ego and insecurities; you aren’t capturing how you LOOK-LIKE. You end up diving into a process of trying to capture what you FEEL-LIKE, and it might be the most “present” I’ve been in any sort of memory I can reference. To stand a wait with yourself, by-yourself as the self-timer counts down, and you just feel everything.. and your inner voice gets dummy loud. ..And then! when you get the chance to review what has been captured, you don’t even look the same as you do in the mirror! You almost don’t even recognize who you’re looking at, at first.. It’s the most insane therapy session lol. But, you’re hoping that the camera was able to capture, honestly, what you FEEL-LIKE, right now, for this version of yourself. So, I took a chance at revealing myself to myself, in my most peaceful place on this planet that I know.. doing the most absolutely mindless thing I love to do, fixing old greasy shit… but yeh.. the engine is 163 lbs.. I’m no Randy Smith haha but this will do. #FXE #SHOVELHEAD

Frame game! It’s a family affair.. with @kamasiwashington & @amitaframusic and my loved ones over at @brainfeederrecords . This is only the second project in a series of five films that Fatima and I have been working on. This was a fun one, where we really stepped away from the conventions of concept and just made something kinetic, and performative.. something that feel like what this specific film has turned out to be.. kinda mad. Yeet! Sharing some frames with y’all! This project came together in such a short amount of time - it’s one of those project where the location writes the story for you and forces your hand to act before it’s gone. In this case we had 1 week with this rare pool. First time shooting 200T - it’s pretty fine grain so I pushed the film pretty hard to retain all the grit. @dan_kanes laced me with a prototype PL to PL focal reducer to play with for the 12mm angles. A lot had to come together for this to happen. Special thanks to @cslarentals and my brother @photofilmfun for keeping me equipped.
