Twenty years ago, @cityCURRENT started with a simple belief: when business leaders and community leaders sit at the same table, good things get powered.
This week, we carried that belief to Marion County, Florida — partnering with @the_eb_mills_foundation to launch their Signature Speaker Series at @thecountryclubofocala
The EB Mills Foundation exists to empower underserved communities and build futures, investing in solutions that foster community development across Marion County — food programs, scholarships, grants, and the human connections that turn resources into real change.
The kickoff speaker? @alden_mills . Three-time Navy SEAL platoon commander. Former Inc. 500 CEO of Perfect Fitness. Bestselling author of Unstoppable Mindset. He reminded the room that the biggest obstacle most of us face is the one between our ears — and gave leaders a framework to move past it.
The moment that captured everything this partnership stands for: the EB Mills Foundation awarded Camiah Roberts a $20,000 scholarship to AdventHealth University in Orlando. Mindset meets opportunity. Vision meets action.
Thank you to Eric, Carmen, Mr. Mills, and the entire EB Mills Foundation team for trusting us to help shape this launch. Marion County, you’re just getting started.

The @edgememphis Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County (EDGE) works to create opportunity through strategic investment, business growth, and community-focused partnerships. By connecting public resources with private sector momentum, EDGE helps attract major employers, strengthen critical infrastructure, and support entrepreneurs at every stage of growth.
This work utilizes large-scale economic development tools, such as incentives and industrial asset management, as well as neighborhood-serving initiatives like the small business loans that help revitalize commercial corridors across Memphis. EDGE also leads key regional assets, including the International Port of Memphis and Foreign Trade Zone 77, strengthening the city’s role as a global hub for trade and logistics.
EDGE's efforts have earned national recognition, including a 2025 Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) Award from Trade & Industry Development magazine for transformational corporate investment in Memphis and the 2024 Distinguished Local Development Finance Agency award from the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA). Led by President and CEO Dr. Joann Massey, an honoree of the Memphis Business Journal’s Power 100, Super Women in Business, PRSA Memphis’ 2026 Communicator of the Year, and our recent Legacy honoree with The SPARK Awards, EDGE continues to expand its impact across Memphis and Shelby County.
Through initiatives like Entrepreneurship City and the Small Business Loan Program, EDGE is helping ensure that growth is both visible in neighborhoods and accessible to local founders. At its core, EDGE is committed to #PoweringProgressThroughPartnerships that strengthen communities and expand economic opportunity for all.
