Team Tummy Monster @baftascotland awards 2025! Tummy Monster was nominated for Best Feature Film, a huge feat for our small independent film! We didn't take home the gong but we did party like winners 🏆 #baftascotland #tummymonsterfilm

Team Tummy is delighted to have won the Méliès d’Argent award for Best European Feature at Lund Fantastic Film Festival last week. The Jury had this to say: Turning an unexpected wave of empathy for Justin Bieber into an intimate, horrific chamber piece showcases remarkable craftsmanship and a sharp sense of dark humor. The actors' raw presence heightens the existential tension and draws us effortlessly into an intriguing, wonderfully strange underworld conjured between them. The film is a layered exploration of the horror that arises from within, rendered in a clever style that doubles as social satire. It playfully portrays how facing our shadow self can be far harder than rubbing your tummy. A huge thank you to @lundfantastic film festival for having me over. I saw some wild films, and met a lot of great people!

Tummy Monster was shot in just 5 days, with a tiny budget and the help of a lot of very talented people. I set out to prove that it is possible to make a high quality, entertaining and unique film in a truly independent way. Shot in Glasgow's east end, the entirety of the production team & crew was composed of talented and skilled professionals who live and work in Scotland. The creative process of making this was an absolute joy. Getting it out there has been hard graft... so thank you @Baftascotland for this nomination. It's a huge win for such a small film. Michael Akinsulire brings the gravitas as rap star Tummy's watchful minder-mentor-manager Truth. A beacon of sense in a storm of stupidity, the counter-part to the chaos and always a step ahead of the game, Michael's firm hand, smooth tones, and all-knowing aura as Truth keep the mind-melting mayhem tethered to reality.
