“Este mural se creó para rendir homenaje a la matriarca de este hogar y a la familia que ha criado entre estas paredes: 𝐹𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑎.“
Junto a su retrato, pinté una flor en pleno esplendor para reflejar su profundo amor por las flores y para plasmar la belleza perdurable que lleva consigo, tanto en su interior como en la familia que ha creado.
Cada día, mientras pintaba, Francisca se sentaba afuera con su familia, observando, aunque no pudiera ver lo que estaba creando. Lo mantuvimos en secreto hasta el final.
Cuando se develó el mural, ella lloró. Nos contó que su salud no le permitiría estar con su hijo mucho más tiempo, pero que ahora, a través de este mural, siempre permanecerá con su familia.

Last weekend, we unveiled a mural by renowned New Mexican artist Jodie Herrera. The mural reflects justice, resilience, and community—a visual statement that claims space, signals solidarity, and reminds everyone that we belong here together.
Jodie's bold, emotional work has been featured from Disney to Art Basel, and we're honored she contributed this beautiful piece of art to our ABQ community.
You can find the mural on Lead Ave at Elm St, near I-25 in Albuquerque. We supported this project in collaboration with the Kennedy Law Firm and @dukesupnm

In this mural, I wanted to speak to the injustices faced by our undocumented and brown communities. The woman looks through the wings of a monarch butterfly, a symbol of migration and resilience. On each side, the words “History is Watching” remind us that our actions will be remembered, whether we were humane or complacent. She stands as a matriarchal watcher, embodying history itself, ever-present, ever-seeing, and holding us accountable to justice and compassion.
