Here’s the lighting plans we created for the Super Bowl LIX opening film featuring Tom Cruise. With only an hour to shoot with Tom (although he kindly gave us 3x that in the end), meticulous planning was crucial. We rehearsed all four setups down to the finest detail, ensuring precise marks for every fixture. It meant we could move between setups in under 4 minutes. The @litegear #AurorisX performed flawlessly overhead for a beautiful, fully customisable, soft top light. The ultra-versatile @arri #SkyPanel X added rich texture to the set, while the classic S360-C shaped the corridors. To light Tom himself, we used the Litemat Spectrums due to their small footprint but large fixture size. Huge thanks to an incredible crew - I couldn’t have done it without them. Super Bowl LIX Opening Film with Tom Cruise—shot on the RED #VRAPTORX—one of the most adaptable camera systems out there. 🎬🏈 From day one, we worked with three massive rear-projected video screens. Even with a technical director on board, I wasn’t willing to take any chances with flicker. Knowing the V-RAPTOR’s global shutter would eliminate that risk was a game-changer - especially since we couldn’t properly test until the set was built, just two days before filming with Tom.   We shot at Pinewood Studios to align with his schedule, with all footage edited by FOX Sports, whose post team maximises the RED workflow. The compressed RAW format preserved full sensor data while keeping file sizes manageable - crucial for leveraging the full 8K sensor. With only a few hours to shoot, every relight and camera move had to happen in under five minutes. The V-RAPTOR’s latitude and dynamic range ensured seamless matching across setups, and by working closely with the DIT, we locked in a near-final look before the footage even left Pinewood. One for the books. Huge shoutout to the incredible crew who made it happen.
