[Featured] MAKING OF — CANAL+ CINÉMA Un grand film ne se fait jamais seul (Tango) 📝 Following our previous post featuring the final film, today we dive into the making of with Director of Photography @boucardmatias (Matias Boucard), breaking down the craft and creative decisions behind this powerful project for @canalplus cinéma, directed by @wearefromla / Pierre Dupaquier. 📝 From the very beginning, movement, camera, and performance were conceived as a single choreography. 🎥 Shot entirely handheld, the camera doesn’t observe the dance , it dances with it. Long takes were used to give space to the performers, preserving rhythm, breath, and emotional continuity. 🎥 Some shoots don’t give you a second take. One day. One athlete. A BMW motorcycle commercial on a racetrack. For @tlfilms and his crew, everything had to be ready before the cameras rolled: a small crew, two RED cameras, and a schedule built entirely around the circuit’s timing. A detailed shot list became the backbone of the day. On a high-pressure commercial set like this, preparation isn’t a bonus. It’s the job. A few principles he swears by when there’s no room to miss. 🎬 BTS from “A Bet dos Brasileiros” featuring @vinijr Directed by @eduardofrade Director’s notes 👇 Starting from an agency concept, the process was built scene by scene, designing transitions and narrative flow while already thinking ahead: how this film could expand beyond itself. Shot across Brazil over 9 shooting days, the project was crafted to generate multiple stories from a single production. The result: 13 different cuts. More than that, the film kept evolving — new edits and unseen footage were released over 3 years, keeping the campaign fresh and relevant over time. VFX Breakdown - 🎬 Director @boulawayne teamed up with the brilliant @illogicstudios to bring this impossible outside / inside / outside continuous shot to life for his latest car film. 📝 Director’s Notes👇 The challenge was to make the entire film feel like one continuous shot, from beginning to end and to shoot as much as possible in camera, not as full CG. This would have been impossible without the insanely talented team who followed me on this one: @illogicstudios for the post-production, @cinemotionrobotics for mastering the motion control, and @Julienlascar for DP’ing the whole thing. Because we shot the film in camera, with highly complex movements, we needed a pretty intense tracking process to match the camera movement in post. We also had to create the entire driving sequence in the city from scratch. From the car model, to the highway, the city background, and the camera animation. For that, we needed people as technically sharp and artistically creative as the team at @illogicstudios . I had a lot of fun working out how to shoot all the transition shots in this spot. The spot was shot on the Alexa mini LF with the Canon K35 lenses and the Laowa Pro2be kit. For this shot up using a simple noga arm with clamps and some tape to fix the carrot to the lens. The first half of the transition was handheld while the last half was shot using a @cartoni.camerasupports 3 axis Lambda head. The trick was to make the rotation nodal to the carrot instead of the sensor. Here's some BTS.
