[Directors Cut] ASICS: Ekiden
We spent two weeks in Japan making this film around Ekiden. One runner passing the Tasuki to the next.
You’re taking on the effort of the person before you and running for the people after you.
That idea of shared energy became the core of the project.
Ekiden is built on it, giving energy, receiving energy, moving as a team. And in a way, ASICS carries that forward too. The shoes are shaped by real runners, so every time someone puts them on, that same energy keeps moving.
What I loved most about this job was the people. The crew, the cast, our local team in Japan. Everyone brought something to it. Long days, early starts, figuring things out together and celebrating the wins along the way. Even when we got completely rained on… we embraced it and it became part of it.
It didn’t feel like we were just making an ad. It felt like we were capturing something real and trying to do it justice.

Every frame has a role, what’s held, what’s left out, what’s given a second longer to sit.This is the direction I keep finding myself moving toward.
