It was great to see so many friends and colleagues at the
@austscreensound Awards on Saturday, and it was a huge honour to win Best Sound in a Documentary for
@yurlu.country .
Congratulations to all the nominees who were all equally as deserving of the recognition.
Maitland Parker was a Banjima elder who faced his mortality with courage and dignity. He spoke about his illness when it was taboo and left instructions for his family to allow his image and voice to be used to tell his story, in the hopes it would help pressure the Western Australian Government to clean up the more than 3 million tonnes of asbestos waste covering 46,000 hectares of the Pilbara and Banjima country.
Everybody on the crew felt the huge responsibility of working on this film.
@stuartmelvey was meticulous in going through production sound to create authentic and moody atmospheres, and his more esoteric sound design is fantastic. He delivered well beyond expectations.
Cam Grant’s work is world class as always, his sound design is visceral and moving. Literally; his sub is awesome. I’ve lost count of how many films we’ve worked on together and I hope there are many more in our future.
@laurenligovich dialogues are delicate and thoughtful and were a joy to mix.
All the production sound recordists Adam Roberts,
@stereo_works_ ,
@solidstayt , Richard Hubbard, even Tom Bannigan the DoP all did an amazing job.
@helena.czajka score is unique and moving, I love mixing her music this is the third film we have worked on together and it’s always profound.
@tombannigan images are absolutely breathtakingly stunning and
@_franforbes_ picture edit is lyrical. There is so much intent and thought put into Franks cuts it’s a real pleasure to work with because the film naturally flows so well.
@yaaraboumelhem is an incredible director. She leads with not only vision and drive but with empathy and integrity. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
There is a link in my bio to support the cleanup effort of the deadly waste materials and take action.
The highlight of the event for me was Angus
@66mungo impassioned speech advocating for our value as Australian Screen Sound practitioners.
