I sometimes can’t believe, My mother whom I didn’t consider an angel while she mothered me but now most certainly know she was, feared flying. Flying for some is just a form of travel but for me it’s a remainder of a part of life my mother never got to experience. She never called me when she landed, I never hugged her goodbye at the airport. Yet because of her life and decision to adopt me, she offered me a take off with clear skies. This year, like every year she’s been gone, I’m plagued with grief and the questions of did she know how amazing of a pilot she was? Does she know her love propelled me? How she never deserved to be my bag carrier yet never complained? How efficient of a compass she was? Did she know it’ll never be a day I’m alive that I’m not filled with the gratitude of choosing me as a passenger. My Lord. This Mother’s Day as i reflect on my experiences through life’s turbulence, I still smile because she did. I laugh loudly because she did. I play cards because she did. I raise my kids with unconditional love because she did. I treat all people dignified because she did. I call on God because she did and lastly I choose to still soar because she did. Everyday I pray, while watching me from her aerial view that’s she’s proud of the air she crafted in me. Yall, Never forget to thank your pilot as often as you can for a safe landing. Happy Mother’s Day.

šŸ—‚ļø E43 pt. I: Nestled on Beatties Ford Road in West Charlotte, Archive CLT stands tall as a pillar of Black culture and history. From politicians and celebrities to aunties and old heads, Archive has something tasty and unique for everyone. Owner and Curator Cheryse Terry recounts how she turned an idea into reality over three years ago. With help from Tony Santoro (Enderly Coffee Co.), Justin Hazelton (Lorem Ipsum Listening Bar), Kenya Argurson, and countless other supporters across the U.S., Cheryse channeled her love of ephemera and all things vintage into a third space that she calls ā€œThe People’s Cafe.ā€ šŸ”” Check back for PART TWO as we dive deeper into who inspired Cheryse and what parts of her archive she values most. šŸŽµ And don’t forget to check out our event at Archive on Saturday, April 4th. Details in bio.

We had the pleasure of ending Black history month with 2 activations at The Charlotte Hornet’s HBCU day! We displayed a gallery of vintage campus life images and over 200 HBCU yearbooks dating the 50-90s, it brought so much joy to see folk finding their family members and seeing photos of them for the first time, Greek memorabilia… just HBCU everything! The pride was in the building!!!! Thank you for everyone that came by our tables and showed some love! See ya in the cafe, everyday but Wednesday ✨ Special thanks to: @le_dayy @theranista (you documented all of this the best btw) @jaylennnnd @theknevaeh for being a dream team! We couldn’t have done it without yall! Your hard work and energy made it a success And @the.ninatran for championing us for this moment and being a hands on support!
