Women farmers are the backbone of our agrifood systems, growing food, feeding families, and sustaining communities every day. 🌾👩🏾‍🌾 During this International Year of the Woman Farmer and every day, let’s recognize their vital role, remove barriers, and ensure they have the rights, resources, and opportunities to thrive. For equity. For resilience. For all of us. #YearOfTheWomanFarmer #IYWF2026

Happy Labor Day 🌍 Today we honor the people who feed the world. From farmers and fishers to market women, transporters, food vendors, and kitchen teams, food exists because of your labor. Behind every plate is a chain of dedication, resilience, and skill. Supporting food workers means supporting food security, livelihoods, and the future of our communities. As a chef, I am proud to stand with the hands that nourish the world every day. #LaborDay #FoodSystems #SupportFoodWorkers

We are at a moment when the future of Africa’s food systems depends on the choices we make today. Women farmers are not on the margins of Africa’s food systems, they are at the center of them. They grow it. They sustain it. They feed it. Yet they remain among the least supported and least invested in. This International Year of the Woman Farmer must not be symbolic, it must be transformational. It must deliver real investment, real rights, and real accountability. Because investing in women farmers is not charity, it is strategy. It is how we achieve Zero Hunger. It is how we build climate resilience. It is how we advance gender equality and inclusive growth. The question is no longer why. It is: what will we do now? The time for acknowledgment has passed. What remains is action, measurable, accountable, and urgent. I urge you all to join @fao ‘s Commit to Grow Equality initiative and help turn advocacy into concrete action, mobilizing finance and partnerships that deliver real change for African women farmers. An industry that feeds you, is an industry worth discovering. #fao #womanfarmer #arc34

Power List Spotlight: @chef_binta “Food to me means community,” says Fatmata Binta, an award-winning chef based in Accra, Ghana. “Food is a love language; it’s a bridge between cultures.” After fleeing war-torn Sierra Leone in 1997 for her ancestral home in Pitaji, Guinea, as a young girl, food became a way for Binta to connect with her family and Fulani roots. That connection has shaped a winding journey—from planting ancient grains and learning to cook dishes like dried okra soup with her grandmother to winning the Basque Culinary World Prize in 2022 and just being appointed the 2026 FAO Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Africa. When she isn’t cooking, Binta uses her public speaking skills to advocate for nutrient-rich, climate-resilient West African ingredients like fonio, millet, and African locust beans, while centering Indigenous knowledge and spotlighting the women farmers and cooks who sustain these foodways. “The world is desperately seeking food solutions,” she says. “There are many answers in Africa. I see West African food as the future.” Sharing these ideas before live audiences will be a major part of her ambassadorship role in the year ahead. Meanwhile, in her current home of Ghana, Binta continues to expand her foundation, the Fonio Heritage Village, supporting women in rural communities through education and connection to markets. In February 2026 she launched a multipurpose space in Ho, a Fulani village in the Volta Region. It’s currently a place where foodies, chefs, and journalists visit for a complete immersion in the rhythms of village life, but Binta envisions one day using the space to host cooking workshops, dining experiences, and educational gatherings to teach about Indigenous African foodways and allow a wider range of people to experience this food at its source. “The soul of a region is in rural areas, and in street food stands,” she says. “I want people to see a place in the most authentic way.” Read the full 2026 Women Who Travel Power List at the link in bio. ✍️: @alicia_erickson 📸: @elhamlili_mostapha , Henry KD
