Yesterday was my last day as Creative Director of The Face. That’s 3.25 years, 10 issues and thousands of print & web pages.
Funny when people said it couldn’t work (myself included), and relaunching what I always considered to be the best youth culture bible has been no mean feat. For 3 years it’s been done with care and attention – well, for the most part – and I’ve been driven by not wanting to do what everyone else is doing, and I like to think that’s paid off.
To keep it succinct, big thanks to everyone that works for The Face – and the countless brilliant artists and writers that have contributed. You have all helped define what it now is, I just got to whip it into shape.

Little essay, sorry…! Had the mega fun task of revamping Kerrang over the last few months. This was the first mag I ever really got into; every Wednesday, skipping lunch and saving the money to go to the newsagents after school. The logo is my redrawing of the 80’s thrashy lockup - simplified and reborn in deliciously freeing RGB digi colours. This was my favourite logo from the hefty arsenal that K! had and was in circulation when I was in play-group, but it felt the most ‘right now’ of the many (many) logos I worked up over months. It was the right time to embrace a true behemoth’s legacy but twist it into a younger and more fun direction.
Designed a new and long overdue website for this all to live on, too, with the brilliant help of @g.m.ae - giving a more authoritative edge to the title and it’s daily existence on the www.
More fun, more free, more open to new things - musically, culturally and artistically - this is an exciting step for the mag and it’s been a joy to reset the path.
TLDR: f’d around with a mental logo and revamped one of the best titles in the music publishing world 🙏🏽
Thanks to JP, Phil, GMae, Luke, Esmé, Lydia, Emily, Billie, Aled, Nick and Damien for the trust and collaboration!
Started in a Keynote, ended up in the Daily Mail.
A whirlwind project for @burberry with Olivia, Barry, Simz, Cole and Eze (Zhang and Cara, too), 100 sheep, a helicopter, canal boat, rain machines and a whole train station.
Thankful to everyone that brought it to life with us @frosty_inc_ . Videos by the impeccable @_rubberband and stills by the inimitable @alasdairmclellan . Huge gratitude to the many people that kept the machine moving, @smugglersite@partner.films@fannyandrory@daydreamer.ldn@_maxrandall@packdrawn and the teams of people not tagged who also made it all go so smoothly.
Commemorative DVD’s theoretically available at a bootsale near you. 💿
