PURPOSE // I did not set out to become the poster girl for perimenopause and in The New York Times Business section of all places. But, that’s what happened this week and the response has been nothing less than incredible. My DMs exploded. “Thank you for being so brave and sharing your story.” As women, we do not show vulnerability at the workplace, because we are still fighting for a seat at the table and to prove our worth. Yet we can’t ignore the cruel fact that we reach the pinnacle of our careers at the exact same time our health need some extra care. This conversation needs to happen NOW. But it’s more than just fighting for critical corporate resources to support us and access to HRT (which helps symptom relief but more importantly protects your heart, brain and bones). I believe that each and every one of us has the power to determine how we age. As someone who reversed her symptoms in a few short months, I’m living proof. Our metabolic health is a huge contributor to our hormonal health (for both women and men). More needs to be done to teach people how to use diet, sleep, fitness and stress reduction to impact health today and for the future. This is 53. I’ve never been this happy, healthy or excited by my life. My birthday wish for this year is to spend more time with the people that I love. So far an impromptu road trip to Ojai, a weekend in Fort Lauderdale, a night of gallery hopping. Quality time with my favorite people and some frisky turtles. I promised that I’d be more fun by Spring. Who wants to play?

This is me and my mom. Today would’ve been her 81st birthday. She was a talker. The woman was always on the phone. Checking in. Checking up. On everyone. Her career was fashion but her calling was caretaking.
 And yes — the apple didn’t fall far. This week I wrote about the beloved icons we’ve lost recently: Diane Keaton, Jane Goodall and Robert Redford.
 A flood of tributes spoke of more than just their accomplishments but their character and purpose. Why do we wait until someone is gone to say the thing? We save our deepest, most heartfelt words for the milestones — or worse, the memorials. So here’s your reminder — and mine: Call your people.
