A preview of this year’s Chelsea Flower Show 🌿 @the_rhs Working with garden designer @harryholdingstudio and architects @michaelisboyd It was great to have the team over to review progress on the soon to be pavilion 🦪 which will later be relocated to the @edenprojectcornwall Morecambe 🌊 Another year collaborating with our good friends at @lalandscapes who’ll be doing all the landscape and planting magic ✨ 🏗️

Freshly rolled reused CHS from Cleveland Steel, shaped by the masters at @angle_ring_ 🌀 All forming part of a pavilion we’re working on… Can you guess which show we’re returning to this year? 🌸🪻🌻

Sometimes structural engineering is as basic as making sure the sculpture doesn’t fall on someone’s head 🏗️ ⭐ However, that question may then lead to others: How does this geometry work - a stellated icosohedron inside a dodecahedron? If we push and pull it a bit, can we make the star sit exactly inside and support the existing yellow bit? How can we make the connections easily without making bespoke nodes? Can we make this from bits that we can get from a hardware store? Does it look right in the space? 💡✏️🏗️ @cake_structures had an enjoyable time sketching with @karlsingporewala to help in these early questions, and it was wonderful to see the resulting artwork hanging from the dome of the @rwabristol as the major intervention in Cosmos, their current exhibition. It’s a superb exhibition, and well worth a visit. And you also get to share the stage with a 4.2 BILLION year old meterorite. “Leave your home and family (2026)” - @karlsingporewala Analysis, geometric definition and communication: @cake_structures using Rhino3D with Grasshopper/Karamba/Shapedriver Nodes: Build With Hubs Prototyping and load testing: @cakeindustries Full build and installation: Karl and team.

💥 Big milestone this week 💥 We’ve officially achieved UKCA accreditation at Execution Class 3! This certifies @cakeindustries to fabricate high-complexity structures, meaning more bridges (including road bridges!) and even greater assurance for clients commissioning large, multi-flight commercial staircases 🏗️ Massive respect to our team of makers whose craft and hands-on skills make this possible ⚙️ Looking forward to what’s to come in 2026 ‼️

CAKE ENGINEERING GRADUATE APPLICATIONS Passionate about structural engineering, and excited about how to make that tangible? Keen to get hands on with projects that will get built within your first few months? Looking to learn quickly but not sure about the big corporate graduate schemes? Inspired by really making a difference with sustainable outcomes? Cake Engineering is a small engineering practice with big ambitions, founded to carry out complex work for extraordinary structures. We work on everything from sculptures (where we work closely with the artist) through to staircases for private and corporate clients, and onwards to footbridges and moving structures. Our work is not run-of-the-mill, and often leads to award winning outcomes. We take a sketch or an idea and make it a reality. As a graduate engineer working for Cake Engineering you will work closely with the director and senior project leading engineers to help deliver schemes. You will be exposed to responsibility and opportunities to grow, as well as support from experienced mentors. Working alongside our sister company Cake Industries you will be exposed to the process of fabrication, construction and installation, and will gain a deep appreciation of the importance of making in the process of structural engineering design. Applications for graduate engineering roles at Cake Engineering are now open, for start dates in Summer/Autumn 2026. Apply by sending your CV/portfolio and covering letter to [email protected]. Applications close 30th November 2026.

Engineers Create Exhibition 2025 ✏️ We’re proud to be returning to the Engineers Create exhibition this year ⚙️ A marker in the calendar that always reminds us how quickly time moves, and how inspiring it is to see our industry continue to push the boundaries of complex and ambitious builds 🧱 @the_engineeringclub For 2026, we are collaborating with @knightarchitects and @ucl , showcasing two projects that celebrate engineering, craft, and innovation 💭 As a soft launch of what’s heading into our workshop early next year, we’re exhibiting two prototypes from the Trevor Basin Moveable Footbridge: a cast steel balustrade and a section of the spine beam 🔩⚡️ @knightarchitects the designers behind the scheme, will also be displaying a 3D model. It has been a pleasure working alongside @knightarchitects , @hardestyhanover , and the @canalrivertrust on this unique project 🛶 one that balances heritage sensitivity, contemporary vision, and clever fabrication 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Alongside this, we are presenting a collaboration with @ucl on research into the long-term durability of welded connections for wind turbine monopile foundations 💨 As part of the study into extending the life of renewable energy infrastructure, we fabricated a scale model of a variable-thickness monopile, which has been tested in UCL’s structural engineering laboratory using NDT techniques 🦺 📅 6–15 November 2026 🕛 Opening hours: Monday–Saturday, 12 pm – 6 pm 📍 Candid Arts Trust, 3 Torrens St, London EC1V 1NQ

We are really excited to share renders of our proposal for a new footbridge at Canada Water that has been submitted for detailed planning permission. We are working closely with @cartergregsongray to deliver a new bridge and playful promenade that will traverse the Albion Channel at Canada Water for @artinvestrealestate . The bridge will add to the public realm investment in Canada Water as part of AIRE’s redevelopment plans for the dock edge. Inspired by the history of the former docks, the new crossing offers residents and visitors a new perspective; a place to pause and reflect on the water’s edge. Contributing to the area’s ongoing transformation, the bridge replaces an existing narrow bridge with a generous, accessible deck.  Cake Engineering are delivering bridge and structural engineering services to the team, supported by @asquared.studio and @simple__works . Fabrication will be carried out by our sister company @cakeindustries . We are looking forward to continuing to work on this project as we bring it forward for construction. Excellent renders by Carter Gregson Gray

Skill sharing ⚙️ The design team joined the workshop this afternoon to give welding a go ⚡️ For us, this is the norm, sparks flying, metal fusing, saw blades turning. It’s real, hands-on experience of how things are built. And that’s what makes Cake Industries what it is: makers, engineers, and designers under one roof, learning from each other and bridging the gap between design and making ✏️

Tucked away in Bracklinn Falls, our bridge with @beam_architects keeps finding the spotlight ☀️ Delighted to share it’s the Footbridge Awards 2025 winner in the Under 30m category 🏆 This year’s ceremony took place in Chur, Switzerland, with @cake_structures Director, David Knight in attendance 🇨🇭 Meanwhile, the Z-bridge system is back in the design office — this time for an urban setting. Fabrication kicks off in the new year ⚙️ ✏️ 🌃
