A huge thanks to @gardens_illustrated for featuring our Earls Court Oasis garden in this August issue - wonderful to see that one of @alistergthorpe masterful photographs of the garden made it on to the front cover!
This garden has been fortunate to pick up an award from @societyofgardendesigners and some great feedback from within the industry.
We worked with fantastic clients to create a shady oasis in central London that wanted to evoke a woodland retreat with a tropical twist - a key part of the brief was to bring through some of our client’s Australian roots. Hidden away amongst the bustling streets of Earls Court, we focussed on resilient perennials to build layers of lush green texture that can thrive in the challenging urban conditions. An understory of Musa basjoo banana plant and Dicksonia antarcrtica create a magical feel whilst evoking the richly layered forests in Australia.
The planting focuses on the beauty of green tones, textures and forms - pops of colour come through with a simple succession of flowering perennials. All of this lush planting is offset against clean, contemporary hard landscaping with corten steel, black timber and granite planks building a relationship with the interior of the property.

We’ve loved watching this garden come into its own a couple of years on. Much of the design thinking here is about edges - where paving yields to planting, gravel blurs into green, and structure softens. Clay pavers thread through the space and mingle with the beds, their irregular broken edges taking the formality down. Self-seeders stitch the gaps and soften the hardscape, and our client cares for it beautifully - editing with intention and letting plants find their place. A shallow steel bowl catches rain for birds and insects. Boulders slow the eye and anchor the planting.
The plant palette is robust yet soft, with edimentals throughout - crab apples, hazels, soft fruit, herbs, wild strawberries and nasturtiums - bringing structure and a long season of interest, balanced by grasses that keep everything light and airy.
Huge thanks to @alistergthorpe for the photos.

I remember someone describing Chelsea Flower Show like the horticultural Olympics. In many ways it’s a good comparison so people understand what goes into one of these gardens. Harry and team have been working on this for two years and now has been on the build doing 12hr days for two weeks.
It brings together a community of super passionate, experienced and dedicated designers, landscapers and horticulturalist to test their abilities and push the boundaries of this industry.

Another beautiful late spring combination from one of our @the_rhs Chelsea gardens. Our native foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) with ragged robin (Silene flos-cuculi) and Baltic parsley (Cenolophium denudatum).
The hot pinks of the foxglove and ragged robin really bring life to a largely green, textural mix. And the flat white plates of the Cenolophium offer a counterpoint - a moment of calm to let the hotter colours breathe.
Rising above, Angelica archangelica adds height and structure to the whole scene.
