Madison is always one of me and Karrie’s favorite weekend getaway spots. Short drive from Chicago, great food and drink, cool venues for live music, and just an overall fun vibe in a college town. A quick Tuesday trek down to St. Louis to meet up with my friend Rob @wildcard_rg to see our bud Nick @shabotage play drums for the legendary Corrosion of Conformity @coccabal . Capped off the week of awesome shows by heading up to Madison to see @blacklabelsocietyofficial and @zakksabbath at @thesylvee with my long time friends from high school Bud and Carl. Fittingly, the show fell on the same day that BLS released their fantastic new album, Engines of Demolition. It was a treat to hear Zakk’s heartfelt tribute to the Prince of Darkness, “Ozzy’s Song,” live for the first time. I don’t think there’s a better place to experience opening weekend of March Madness than in Vegas. The setup, spread, and accommodations at @arialv were exceptional. Loved hanging with my boys @mermannn3 , @steven.nielsen.9 , @jdhcrawford , and @robtymm and a huge thank you to Mers for everything. It was cool running into NBA and NCAA champ @riphamilton32 on day one and the dinner at @catch on Saturday night was outstanding and a perfect way to close out the time in Sin City. Then headed to the airport for a daunting redeye flight home. Managed about 2 hours of sleep before heading to @ramovachicago to see Bay Area thrash legends @testamentofficial play a blistering set that kept my fumes running on high. Always great catching up with my bud @jeff_cummings and thank you to him, @chuckfcknbilly , and @chuckschicktiff_billy for an awesome night that was made even better headbanging alongside @gogosox40 , @acxdrums , @curtisduffy , @jenniferduffy305 , and Van. I love when good things happen to good people. So happy and proud of my great friend Nick @shabotage for landing the gig as the new drummer for the legendary Corrosion of Conformity @coccabal . I’ve loved this band since I was in high school so to see this all come to fruition for Nick is beyond cool. And it’s so well deserved. Thanks to my bud @charbenante for recognizing Nick’s talent and making the recommendation. The new COC double album Good God/Baad Man comes out on April 3rd and then lots of tour dates after that. A quick trip to The Mile High City to see @colonyhouse on Thursday and then @blacklabelsocietyofficial and @zakksabbath on Friday. Both shows were awesome and I had a blast hanging with my friend and colleague Joe @francislilac . Great convo over some beers at my favorite brewery in Denver @cerebralbrewing . Then over to @rheinhausdenver for some delicious pork schnitzel and spaetzel before watching BLS and Zakk Sabbath tear it up. Loved catching up with my cousins for breakfast at @jellycafe on Saturday before heading back to Chicago. Trips to LA never suck but this past weekend ranks right up there as one of my favorite LA trips ever. The reason? To celebrate my awesome friend Corey’s @badboycraven 50th birthday. Many “Corey & Coke’s” were consumed on Friday and I loved catching up with many friends that attended the party, especially the Yachtley Crue peeps. Saturday involved a long day and night at both Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach where we took in great seafood, many drinks, and live music by a reggae band, a Rod Stewart cover band, a 90’s alternative rock cover band, AND a Led Zeppelin cover band. Love me a good cover band and even better that we didn’t have to pay a cover. Always fun to take it all in with my bud @eric.bonano . A huge thank you to Corey and Shannon @shannefatale for throwing a great party and showing us some of your favorite places, which are now some of MY favorite places. Tough L against the Lakers but the Bulls battled and Luka put on a show. Loved taking in the game with my friends @damendrums , @theartcruz , and @halloweenamanda . It’s always a treat running into old Bulls co-workers and thanks to two specific ones (you know who you are) for helping to make the night extra special. As I pulled out of the UC parking lot, the crushing new @lambofgod song Into Oblivion (new album out March 13th!) came on @fnliquidmetal .
