Sports gave me a way to tune out the chaos and find focus. For @boonespeed , climbing (and even risky choices as a teen) were ways to quiet the noise and discover a sense of peace. Sometimes, it’s about finding that flow state where everything else fades away. Listen to the full What's The Rusch episode, where Boone explores his path from professional sport climbing to renowned photographer and creative. Listen using the link in bio!

I’m back on a short trip revisiting Yangshuo, China. It’s amazing to be back here after almost 17 years! It’s incredible to see how much this place has grown and how much climbing has developed since my first visit in 2009. It has me reminiscing on the good times I had establishing a few routes that have now become modern classics. Pictured here is Spicy Noodle 8c , White Mountain. 📸 Great shots by @boonespeed We made a cool film with @mikecall “Made in China” you can find on YouTube. Good times fellas. I’m looking forward to creating some more fun times together in 2026! Also I need to come back to this magical place to finish off some of these other routes I bolted back in the day and to share this incredible place with my family @alarconjimena ❤️

Iron Resolution V13 FA Joshua Tree California 01/01/2006 This one meant a lot. My mom had passed away less than a month before and I came down to Joshua Tree to find some peace and reflection. It was a lot to take in. Spending New Years in the desert was a good way to reset. A few days prior, the late legend #ScottCosgrove mentioned to me that he had seen a new boulder out by Barker Dam. It had fallen out of the cliff side a few months before, revealing this exquisite iron rock from the inside of the mountain. We always look for new boulder problems but this was literally a brand new, beautiful boulder that had just appeared in one of the main areas of Joshua Tree. What a gift! The arete line was big, obvious and stunning and it immediately inspired me. After scoping it on a rope (I used a bolt in the boulder from a route that it had belonged to as an anchor). I only had one pad and my good friend @sterling_keene as a spot , (he is a great friend but not the burliest guy to catch me from the sketchy crux at almost 20 ft😅.) It was cold, windy and a little ominous. But it was New Year’s Day and one of those moments when I just wanted to move forward and not look backwards , with Iron Resolution 😉Standing up through the upper mantle to top it out, was a liberating moment that set the tone and intention going forward into a new chapter and an important new year in my life and my climbing. I bumped into my good friend @boonespeed the next day and came back and snapped these shots. Climbs don’t get much better than this and I’m so grateful for this one and that I didn’t fall from the top 😅. On my way out of the park I saw @ethan_pringle and told him about it. He came back a few days after for the second ascent. Fast forward 20 years it’s great to see this climb has become a modern classic test piece of the area. It’s so cool to see the connections we share with the previous and next generations. It’s definitely adds a lot of richness to this amazing sport of climbing! Here’s to more good times with good friends in amazing places!! 📸 @boonespeed @sharmaclimbing @prana #pranaathlete

@boonespeed ’s path to photography didn’t follow a script. It unfolded alongside a career as a pro climber, graphic designer, and resourceful creative who made images out of necessity. “I had envisioned climbing imagery that didn’t exist,” Boone said in a recent interview with PetaPixel. “So I had to teach myself how to use a camera and go out and make it.” Decades later, that DIY start has evolved into a portfolio full of bold, evocative work for brands like @pelican , @thenorthface , @adidas , and @blackdiamond . Boone has always chased projects that give him creative control — and the freedom to make work that feels like something. At Hence, we’re proud to work with creatives like Boone — creatives who’ve lived it, built it, and still want to break the rules. Photography is still the gold standard. It might not be as trendy as video, or as immediately lucrative, but photography ages with unmatched timelessness. I believe that will always hold true — even in a world flooded with camera phones. The perfect photo, in any format, stands the test of time. Doug Fir Lounge, 2008–2015. Before every hand held a camera, I was house photog for @dougfirlounge . My objective, besides being able to catch as many dope shows as possible, was to teach myself to master my camera under pressure, in the dark. Shooting wide open at f/1.8, dragging a 1/30th shutter, riding the edge of what was possible before the high ISO revolution. Doug Fir was a crucible — a tiny room filled with rising stars. Sharon Jones. Gary Clark Jr. Boots Riley with The Coup (and if you haven’t seen Boots’ films, run, don’t walk) the list goes on and I was able to collect a few photos IGAFA. The unique access I was granted gave these images a perspective you just can’t get from the crowd. Many thanks to MFDF! Long live the art.

A few stills from a shoot in Mallorca with @chris_sharma for fashion brand Mango 🌊 “This shoot was a hilarious kind of shit show. The client wasn’t too concerned with authenticity—they just wanted spectacle while sipping Prosecco from the deck of a schooner. For them, it was a lovely few days off watching the madness unfold in the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, Sharma was in on the joke but also saw an opportunity to showcase deep water soloing in Mallorca—his baby. The logistics were a beast. The sun threw harsh shadows, the climbing was legit difficult (even for Sharma, with limited chalk), and then the dark blue suit… well, let’s just say chalk and tailoring don’t mix. Some shots were DOA before they even hit the card. At the end of the day it felt like we were threading the needle between stunt and art. But looking back, the result is cheeky, absurd, and honestly, it’s aged pretty well.” - @boonespeed

My buddy Ben Hanna. This is what it feels like to be close. So close you can taste it, but for whatever reason, it's just not your day. FFS, we climb to succeed. But it's here, we learn the most. @hanna_smash on 'Ice Cream' in Hell. A short, bouldery little bastard from a bygone era. The hardest thing I ever did. FA: September, '97. @aaron_shamy described it like: "needing to flip 'heads' ten straight times".
