No better way to mark the end of AS IF at the @image.museum.ireland than a full house for a superb conversation chaired by the wonderful and kind soul that is @mrdonaldineen It has been a pleasure working with Eamonn, Niall, and David, and we are delighted that @photoireland ’s new home was a perfect match to everyone’s ambitions. I am thankful to their hard work, as I am to that of @julia.gelezova and all our team, Lara Nagy, Lauren Gallagher, Aibh Clabby, Beruh Pietx, Esme Dunne, Saoirse Groves Murphy, and Sarah Byrne; also to the production team @stevenmaybury , Declan Greaney, Drexel Purtelle, Evan Dow, James Grünfeld, Róisín White, and Rory Tangney. The opening night was more memorable than the storm we endured that day, supported by the warmth of @jameson_ireland , the refreshing @thedinglebrewhouse , the delicious treats by @yamamoridining and the many people that came to participate in this remarkable milestone. It is a must to celebrate the incredible work by the team at @_sosimpatico especially the never-ending energy of @karwalshe as well as the team at @micromedia_outdoor and the love given by @district.magazine @totallydublin and @rte_arena amongst others. And of course, we must celebrate the support of the @artscouncilireland , in particular the Visual Arts team, who ultimately made this exhibition possible, as well as the teams of Kennedy Wilson and @cooperscrossdublin always there to support our endeavours. The conversation defined this moment not as the end of AS IF, rather the beginning of its journey, a beginning that we feel immensely grateful to have been part of. @eamonn.doyle.d1 @weeneypony @dvddnh @mrdonaldineen @image.museum.ireland @photoireland @artscouncilireland #internationalcentrefortheimage #eamonndoyle #niallsweeney #daviddonohoe #donaldineen photoireland photography irishphotography ireland

Delighted to have OVER Journal issue 4 part of the @100archive 2025 OVER Journal is a publishing project by PhotoIreland that represents in every issue a critical selection of contemporary photographic practices from all continents. Issue 4 explores themes around representation and the evolving role of the image in shaping history and identity, articulating new representations that challenge historical legacies - with contributions from artists and writers spanning six continents. Featured works include a range of topics investigating representation, from Basil Al-Rawi’s challenge of the narrative representation of Iraq and its diaspora to Tashiya de Mel’s investigation into visual history of Dutch colonisation in Sri Lanka; from Marianne Keating’s work on shared colonial and revolutionary histories of lands to Jakob Ganslmeier and Ana Zibelnik’s analysis of extremist visual language online, and from Morganna Magee’s research into the historical representation of the kangaroo providing a framework by which we can assess the treatment and narrative building on non-white bodies in visual history to Liss Fenwick’s interrogation of historical and ongoing impacts of extractive colonialist practices in Australia’s Northern Territory. Issue 4 offers these and much more to excite and inspire the reader. Featured artists: Basil Al-Rawi, Alan Butler, Simone C. Niquille, Tashiya de Mel, Imane Djamil, Liss Fenwick, Jakob Ganslmeier, Souheila Ghorbel, Yasmine Hatimi, Bassam Issa Al-Sabah, Amina Kadous, Marianne Keating, Ayoung Kim, Seif Kousmate, Jennifer Mehigan, Hashim Nasr, Alex Prager, Felipe Romero Beltrán, Zohra Serri, Abdo Shanan, Aaryan Sinha, Inuuteq Storch, Rebecca Topakian, Ana Zibelnik. Delighted to have the identity of Ireland’s new Photography museum part of the @100archive Launched in June 2025, the International Centre for the Image is a new museum dedicated to contemporary photographic and image-based art practices run by PhotoIreland. The Centre is conceptually as well as architecturally arranged around four interlocking core areas of arts practice: Research (Art Library and Archive), Production (Workshop and Artist Studios), Exhibition, and Storage and Conservation. The identity was commissioned to Dutch studio Vandejong, developed by the PhotoIreland team in collaboration with Floris van Driel, Cyril van Sterkenburg, Youri Spaaij, and Joline van Berkestijn, and later expanded and applied by Ángel Luis González Fernández and Angie Hogan. The slides feature work presented at the museum by @alexprager (@lehmannmaupin ), @archiveofmodernconflict , @lademiddel , David Farrell, @eamonn.doyle.d1 , @weeneypony , and @dvddnh @image.museum.ireland @photoireland @julia.gelezova @vandejongcreates @angiehogan.design @artscouncilireland @cooperscrossdublin

The 17th July saw the grand opening of @image.museum.ireland , with Foreword as the inaugural exhibition we co-curated with @bohoe It is loud and confrontational, it is a statement. It considers the image and the tensions, limits, insecurities, obsessions, and embracement of, and around, technology and photography. Foreword is self-referential with the simple aim of underlining the curatorial concerns that the new Centre will be dedicated to and that @photoireland has been addressing over the past 15+ years. Installation images @by_evanna Immense gratitude to @clairehealydesign @cooperscrossdublin #KennedyWilson @artscouncilireland and to each and every artist that became part of this @abigailobrien1 #AlanButler @alexprager @anazibelnik @annaehrenstein @safiatou_anna_toure @basilalrawi @this.isnowhere @colinmartin81 #DavidFarrell @dominichawgood @eamonn.doyle.d1 @jakob_ganslmeier @jeancurranphotos @jennifermehigan @mishkahenner @penelopeumbrico

Irish and UK artists interested in joining the @futuresphotography talent platform can apply until 6pm Sunday 15th December 2024. Our colleagues @mariama_attah , @jbnnmnn and @chickeybelfast will contribute to the selection process. This is the kind of opportunities that @photoireland is delighted to provide to artists from our constituency, as they have proven to be quite productive. We have supported directly 35 Irish artists through the @futuresphotography platform since 2018 but also many others indirectly, who joined and benefited from the various local and international events and opportunities. This year, we have the expanded mandate to seek participation from UK artists and consider the British isles as a whole. We are always happy to support artists and to, as in this case, find ways to expand the connections and the opportunities beyond political limitations. The 2025 call closes at 6pm Sunday 15th December 2024, so if you are interested, do not delay. * * * * Image 1: Berta Mars, Chris Finnegan, Debbie Castro, Leon Nevill Gallagher, and Sarah Navan at the @futuresphotography Annual Event in Zagreb, Sep 2024, as part of @organvida_festival .
