…….because building a healthy relationship with our thoughts and feelings — through art, art making, and storytelling — creates space for vulnerability, receptivity, for learning and attunement, for deep breathing, for creativity, for the sharing and exchanging and building and refining of ideas, for forgiveness, for trial, error, responsibility, and ownership. Such a space creates way for heart centered outputs and innovation that is grounded in the real needs of our immediate community and culture 🤍

I designed this piece to evoke the feeling of both a sacred and ancient space, reflecting the wisdom and intelligence held by the nature that surrounds it, and inspiring movement and continuity for those who connect to it

Meditating on a beauty that is felt and lived

Thank you, woman, for inviting me into your abundance
I know it wasn’t easy to forge:
The trust & relationships built
The systems and structures created to hold you
The homes made
The essence nurtured
The knowledge and wisdom garnered
The heart opened & body kept
I don’t take it for granted 🌹
Trying to master the art of being:
‘In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you’ (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV)
Me soaking in the warm breeze on my okada ride to Methodist Cathedral, Otapete Ilesha, after the car broke down.
After Frederico Martelli @cookies_architecture took us on a field trip to document the bodies, smells, microbes, and atmosphere in Freedom Park, we thought deeply about what exhibition designs and stories could emerge as we attune to the rhythms, life cycles, and shapes in our city.
Architect @papaomotayo echoed the beauty of connecting during his guest lecture at Martelli’s exhibition design intensive, where he encouraged us to to see the land we live on as our heritage.
Reflecting on this, I ask: How do processes like this field exercise invite us to be better participants in our city’s evolution? How do we design spaces that invite our community to engage with the very elements that shape their environment? How can our designs enhance our sense of belonging to and ownership of our city?
Thankful for the insights shared within our team (@richardsonovbiebo , @amandamadumere , @haryosvn_ ) during the exercise, and to the organizers of the program (@chinyere.obieze , @orinayo_ , @goetheinstitut_nigeria , @ccalagos )
Breathing
Taking it all in
In the moments it feels a bit too much
I remember all the beauty there is for me
To look after
Song: “Traveller” by @celesteojatula
Our deep blue wall, home to a Chief Muraina Oyelami painting, is a beautiful expression of femininity. Near this wall lives a Miki piano — a place I go to for deep feeling and reflection. I found myself returning to this piano frequently, creating lyrics and melodies, in a season I had a lot of emotions to move through. Making each song felt like me peeling a layer of my story, leading me to wholeness and understanding 🕊️

Lesson lyric video out neowwwwww (link in bio)
The lyrics are a sarcastic cry of a girl who quietly yearns to be seen and appreciated by the people around her. It reveals the unfortunate common reality of many young black women who struggle to be accepted for who they are and who they aren’t in a world full of people who seem too have it all figured out.
The tale of being too “weird”, “too different”, or too much, in a world that only accepts one version of femininity.
