JONAH HOFFMAN
@jonah.hoff
In his research-based practice, Jonah Hoffman exposes the colonial exploitation embedded within painting’s materiality. His current work investigates the history of Cobalt Blue and its entanglements with geopolitical power, energy systems and global art economies. Through layers of printed and painted imagery rendered entirely in cobalt blue, he reinterprets the visual culture surrounding cobalt production and personal technology, confronting the hidden violence embedded within these systems.
By examining systemic injustices in an era of ecological collapse, Hoffman’s work transforms complex histories into reflections on the interconnected roles of materials, states and individuals, while critically examining the artist’s own position within these structures.
Born in New Mexico, USA, Jonah Hoffman holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London (2025) and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2020). He has exhibited in London, Chicago and Santa Fe.

We ❤️ that @youunderwearuk are so transparent about every step of their manufacturing process, showing the workers in their factory that they visit - again and again - to ensure that their supply chain is not hidden away. Fashion made the way it should be.

With my Shared Ground show drawing near, I’m enjoying a weekend of glazing, adding details and curating a final selection.
As I write, the kiln is humming and clunking gently in the background - always a favourite sound, full of optimism.
