I call it a ‘non-debut album’ because I have long been making music in different forms, from death metal to alternative folk, so it feels strange calling it a ‘debut album’. It is the product of years of songwriting and performing solo as Bity Booker. I do take my time making things in a way that makes me happy, out of the commercial sphere and outside of norms and rules. I like to think of my creations as something organically formed and shaped by time, dreams, thoughts, rain and wind. These tape recordings feel very much alive, in the background you can hear sounds of birds, people, the sounds of London, all of which were in the room with me while recording. This album includes some of my favourite songs, some of which you may have already heard at my gigs and some never heard before. Entirely analogue hand-made and designed by me and dipped in rooibos tea and avocado skins 🥑 🫖 to get a special colour 🫶 no AI… no digital… only sun 🌞 paper, ink, hands, water, love… and then scanned for you to see. Thank you Emily @thedarkroombc for teaching me how to make cyanotypes yesterday in Faversham 💙 📷 Photo in the poster is by the talented @stefmartin_ Cyanotype photography is a camera-less technique that involves laying an object on paper coated with a solution of iron salts before exposing it to UV light and washing with water to create images. She is a lover of nature, animals and folklore, she writes and sings gorgeous, wistful songs channeling a lyrical folk tradition. Bity doesn’t just perform songs, she casts them. Last year’s EP – The Frog, The Mouse, The Ship, The Cabin Boy was a 2025 highlight. And, now, Bity’s back. New single, Love is Like a Swallow in the Spring, is Bity’s celebration of everyone’s favourite season. A little video to show you what I do when I go home where I grew up, in the middle of nowhere in Umbria… At the moment I’m busy putting together my album whenever I am not working or playing, so it was very nice to have a little short break visiting my Nonna and parents. I found a well preserved small nest 🪹 in a bramble with ‘old’ horse hair and I put it in a mug to keep because the hair belonged to a horse that is no longer with us 🥲. I enjoyed the company of cats and fed the foxes that come every evening to visit my parents for a snack under their window 🪟 🦊 🍞 I also listened to my mixes and masters 1000 times on a variety of devices and played my Cuenca Spanish Guitar that I have there. Anyway back in London and in my home in Thanet now! 🎧 🏡 🌊 Also… so great to see the big march in London over the weekend 🥰💜🙏 I wish I was there!
