Fools will put their vessel before right Godliness - for what be flesh other than Divilry? Vibrate faster than turgid matter upon and -aye- BEFORE Ye Black Stage!
Emerging into ye new world of Spring's inferno, divilry most perfidious boldly flaunts its haunches and strutteth madly into the light of a cosmic pain nexus ye lykes of which thou can'st and must not fathom!
🖤 Summer Solstice sooncome, and we are celebrating the season of light with our second BPOC / Global Majority Folk Club. Come along to the lovely @thepeerhat Manchester on June 20th for some singing, session tunes, storytelling, hanging out, and more singing. Expect plenty of traditonal songs of Albion, plus diasporic songs from all around the world. Bring your heritage and sing out.
🖤 We are so pumped to have the incredible Anglo Concertina maestro, fine singer and expert on English traditional music @cohenbraithwaite as our special guest. Cohen will play a solo set around the middle part of the session, and will also join in some of the singing and session tunes. Follow us on Substack for an early heads-up about some of the songs.
🖤 Instrument Library: Allies and friends, if you have unused or spare folk instruments you’d like to donate for us to redistribute within the community, please DM us to arrange. We will provide an “instrument library” at each Folk Club, so that anyone coming along for the first time can have a go. Folk is for everyone.
🖤 Check out Cohen’s current album on BandCamp, Play Up The Music. It’s a phenomenal piece of work where he explores Caribbean and Black American variants of English folk songs.

Introducing another band who play @riotfestmcr on the 6th of June!
@two_tonne_machete are an alt rock/punk/grunge band who mix melodic hooks, powerful female vocals and thumping distortion into politically charged songs about the state of the world.
The band are based in North West England and North Wales and are fronted by Emily, who is part of the Riot Fest team alongside @cattfacex and @ruthmurr !
Two Tonne Machete are always pushing to develop musically and create songs that have melody, depth, light and shade producing a more complex and interesting sound. They are ambitious, committed and have a strong political ethos with songs that tackle issues such as misogyny, control, sexuality, protest and dissent. They would be liked by fans of Wolf Alice, Mannequin Pussy, Hole and Sprints.
Their music has been featured on BBC Introducing Merseyside and Radio X’s Exposure show with John Kennedy. They have also won Best Band at the Radio Wigwam annual awards in Jan 2026.
Two Tonne Machetes live sets are full throttle and filled with energy. They are busy gigging and building a sound live following including playing slots at Focus Wales Festival, Future Now Festival, Manchester Punk Festival and Rebellion Festival. 2026 is looking like a busy and exciting year with many gigs and festivals booked plus they kicked off the year by supporting Pulled Apart by Horses in January.
Their new single, ‘Lead With My Bad Side’ is set for release just before the festival!
Keep an eye on their socials and listen to the @wearemanchesterradioshow on the 21st May 2026 for a spin of their new track!
“The vocalist's voice has a torn and fierce drive… She has come to express her truth and will not shut up”: @musicforallmag .

Community Manchester - Here’s my reflection after our Community party with London’s wholly unique, authentic, Black underground House DJ ‘Johnny Reckless ‘.
When I started this party 19 years ago I thought to myself let’s go back to the v small clubs of the 80s that I first attended, 50-100 people, and only play the music that you really really love, forget about pleasing people and attempt to make your own mark on what you think is the coolest yet most artistic deep / spiritual dance music you know.
And tbh I don’t know how we have lasted so long in today’s scene now dominated by insta Mickey Mouse clown people performing to the even worse no vibe clown audiences. But thankfully we have survived. And we have had large audiences trom 1200 people but the smallest ones are ThE best of all.
So bringing Johnny to The Peer Hat, I call it the CBGB of my home city was my ‘ I don’t give a F’about shiny, £15 cocktail, glitzy clubs - let’s do in a real alternative basement that v few non - white people frequent, bring your multicultural people cause it’s the old Manchester that I know and it’s still hidden away so the weekend tourists are not gonna find it & fuck it up by spilling pints on the dancefloor. The venue being the same spot that I hosted Chicago’s Vick Lavender.
I told Johnny that we’re gonna do it differently & both play an hour each from 11 pm and then go back to back at 3am. And Johnny played a set of music that most DJs of our old school generation ( 80s Chicago Trax Records era ) would not be aware or dare to go there. It’s dark, deep, Afro - Electronic ( not the cheesy Afro ‘ Ibeefa ‘ bollocks that has taken over South Africa / Europe ) but there’s also a soul jazz infused conscious lyrics flavour too. Think about what Cultural Vibe’s song ‘ Mafoombey ‘ could evolve into in 2026 and add Carl Craig’s ‘ Sandstorms ‘ to get the vibe. Thankfully our mixed aged range 25-60 years old crowd lapped it up. Johnny, most importantly, didn’t force it, he grooved it all night long at 120 bpm, he knows I hate House Music played too fast. This also allowed to me play a lighter and more upbeat music to contrast with Johnny’s darker tracks. Irfan
💞 So excited to bring Mel 4Ever to the UK for her first ever headline date at The Peer Hat, Manchester on June 4th, 2026!
Blending glitchy electronica with bold, ethereal pop, Mel has built a reputation for fearless performances and unapologetic storytelling. From sold-out NYC shows to major festivals like Outside Lands, Bushwig, and Wynwood Pride, she’s quickly becoming one of the most exciting names in pop.
Having shared stages with Slayyyter, CupcakKe, and Ayesha Erotica, this is just the beginning.
