Healing a human is like peeling an onion. Sure. We all know that. But getting hit with each layer is so harrrrrd! This song came out of the cocky assumption that I was finally free of some past stuff, then getting triggered by some little thing one day and being catapulted back into healing mode. It’s a gift to be a person, and I do my best to ride each wave. But it ain’t easy! Just when I think I’ve landed in a flowery field of sunshine, I find a little more work to do. F•R•I•D•A•Y ThErApY is the first single of my new EP and it drops this week! Two old friends, separated by the Atlantic for the larger part of adulthood, and a grandiose conversation about growing older. When we were teenagers, studying at the BRIT School in London, we spent every minute together in the studio or on stage, with absolute unwavering confidence in our teenage vision and a fervorous commitment to doing things our way. In the years since, Ben has moved to Canada, Tessa stayed in London and Amsterdam and our music-making days became limited, but on the cherished occasions that we can get together a trusted muscle is flexed. Except these days, a more mellow approach wins out. Let the current carve, score out the fringe of your silhouette. Fervour gives way to flow, stubbornness gives way to shared goals, and the agitated music-making of our youth gives way to an 8hr jet-lagged basement studio session that forged this song almost whole cloth. How could you know what you came here for? We decided to record a simple live version. Recorded half in Calgary, half in Amsterdam. Half at night, half in the afternoon.
