“Last Night at Mikell’s”a play by Larry Muhammad, directed by Ben Guillory wrapped on Sunday, May 11th—and we went out with a bang! On Mother’s Day, the one and only Julio Hanson as James Baldwin took us straight to church. The spirit was in the building, and the whole ensemble came through like a choir on fire—preachin’, singin’, and lifting us all up. Peep this special moment—a snapshot of a night filled with love, legacy, and straight-up joy. The audience was, singing, showing love, and giving it up for all the moms in the house. Watch it all the way and you’ll see Whitney Houston’s portrait falls on the floor, the spirit was moving in this space and we all cheered the magic. 🕊️ Today, April 24, marks a solemn milestone - 109 years since the Armenian Genocide, a calculated and harrowing systematic massacre of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire. The echoes of this atrocity persist today, resonating through every corner of Armenian diasporan communities worldwide, while persecution by Turkey and its allies continues unabated. In the last four years, Azerbaijan, Turkey's closest ethnic and political ally, has waged a brutal campaign against ethnic Armenians, cleansing the region of Artsakh. Today, as we witness another genocide unfolding in Palestine, the urgency of remembrance, activism, and solidarity grows stronger. The Genocide remains unrecognized by the governments of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Israel to this day. My song "Odar" is a rendition of the Armenian folk song "Odaroutioun," capturing the poignant longing for home amidst displacement and alienation. It's a dedication to every soul marginalized, displaced, and robbed of dignity by unjust powers.
